Forums - Gaming - My poor Xbox Fanboy brother... (Anecdotal )

Hey, reading the OP again, he doesn't really sound like a fanboy. Maybe it was explained in some of the later posts, I don't know. It seems like he was open minded and the Xbox 360 fit his needs so he stuck with it (much like myself). He liked the 360 on its own merits and not some sort of brand loyalty. With the Xbox One, it sounds like he got a new console and wanted to show it off. What's the bad thing about that? Is he ignoring any Xbox flaws? Is he bashing the PS3/PS4 relentlessly and taking pleasure in any bad news he can find about the competition?

You don't have to answer any of this. You know him better than me. Sorry he hasn't sold his console yet. He hasn't considered returning it to the store he bought it from?

What I can't understand why Sony went with 2.4ghz wifi (only ) radio .. except to make it CHEAP.. while XB1 offers 5Ghz ( and 2.4Ghz ).. Newer routers offer 5Ghz channels and on my Asus Im able to get far superior connections speeds.

What I can't understand is why anyone would use WiFi on a game console to begin with....unless you're stuck with the WiiU's lack of low-latency ethernet

Damn you, Nintendo.....

Wait, what's wrong with the Wii U ethernet?

You mean besides the transitition between USB and ethernet interfaces that adds further unnecessary packet latency?

Has this been tested or is it just an educated guess?

I was interested in this, too.  As a Wii U owner, this is the first I've heard of it.

It's not "tested", it's well known that translation between protocols incorporates latency. In the case of Ethernet over USB, you have frame packet latency (3 packets + 1 ZLP needed to transfer 1 ethernet frame packet, each incorporating latency of it's own for communication protocols between each USB packet, then the latency taken to merge these packets). Depending on the architecture of the device, USB also generally has to navigate through a smaller bus before being introduced on the same bus level as most Ethernet devices (once again, not always the case).

There's a chip on the mb of the PS4 that does the same, so it doesn't seem to be a problem. If its hardwired, I can't see adding any noticable lags.

Let me simplify it for you...

If you attempt to use Ethernet over ANY form of USB, you will incorporate latency. I don't care if it's noticable or not to you...

I don't know why you brought up the PS4, since it already has an ethernet port, so the problem doesn't exist (unless you're using an ethernet USB dongle, to which everyone would ask "why?"). We're talking about Ethernet over USB, not straight ethernet connections...

EDIT: I have to add how incredibly hilarious it is to believe that something hardwired means infinite efficiency....

I'm a branch manager of a collection agency and have been working in this industry for four years. I hear bullshit stories on a daily basis and let me tell you, this one definitely smells like it!!!

In regards to my "Story"

Tis truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth good sir. How dare you assail me with such accusations.

Yup.... sounds about as "truthful" as the satirical Wii U 10 million sales article!

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

I had 4 360s. 3 RROD. One I traded in. I don't see this story as that far fetched....

I believe Nirvana guy is trying to Troll what he thinks is a troll thread. Silly peoples everywhere.

I like those that admit to being PC/PS3 while the Xbox fan just had Xbox. So he was a dedicated fan that got his fill from just one console and you personally admit that PS alone cant satisfy your needs as a gamer. Jus saying our differences run deeper then many think.

That's what I got out of this thread as well.  I came in expecting a Xbox troll thread and what it looks like is a stealth Xbox praise thread and bashing the Playstation brand to boot.  His brother went through 5 360s because he played the shit out of them while OP still has his launch PS3 in great (pristine?) condition.  The 360 scratched all his brother's gaming itches while OP had to have a PC to go along with his PS3.  He then goes on to tell us how happy his brother is with Xbox One to the point of wanting to show it off while OP couldn't even be bothered to bring along a PS4 (did he even buy one and if so why so little passion for it).  This is all inception level shit going on and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Shyamalan twist and we find out that he bought the other Xbox One from his brother.
