In the case of Ethernet over USB, you have frame packet latency (3 packets + 1 ZLP needed to transfer 1 ethernet frame packet, each incorporating latency of it's own for communication protocols between each USB packet, then the latency taken to merge these packets). Depending on the architecture of the device, USB also generally has to navigate through a smaller bus before being introduced on the same bus level as most Ethernet devices (once again, not always the case). |
There's a chip on the mb of the PS4 that does the same, so it doesn't seem to be a problem. If its hardwired, I can't see adding any noticable lags.
