Forums - Gaming - My poor Xbox Fanboy brother... (Anecdotal )

I like those that admit to being PC/PS3 while the Xbox fan just had Xbox. So he was a dedicated fan that got his fill from just one console and you personally admit that PS alone cant satisfy your needs as a gamer. Jus saying our differences run deeper then many think.

That's what I got out of this thread as well.  I came in expecting a Xbox troll thread and what it looks like is a stealth Xbox praise thread and bashing the Playstation brand to boot.  His brother went through 5 360s because he played the shit out of them while OP still has his launch PS3 in great (pristine?) condition.  The 360 scratched all his brother's gaming itches while OP had to have a PC to go along with his PS3.  He then goes on to tell us how happy his brother is with Xbox One to the point of wanting to show it off while OP couldn't even be bothered to bring along a PS4 (did he even buy one and if so why so little passion for it).  This is all inception level shit going on and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Shyamalan twist and we find out that he bought the other Xbox One from his brother.

I do not have a PS4 yet, waiting for the games I want to come out, but yeah, sorry no Shyamanan twist. Well that and I just dumped a truckload of cash on a PC upgrade as a Christmas gift to myself.

You mean besides the transitition between USB and ethernet interfaces that adds further unnecessary packet latency?

Has this been tested or is it just an educated guess?

It's not "tested", it's well known that translation between protocols incorporates latency. In the case of Ethernet over USB, you have frame packet latency (3 packets + 1 ZLP needed to transfer 1 ethernet frame packet, each incorporating latency of it's own for communication protocols between each USB packet, then the latency taken to merge these packets). Depending on the architecture of the device, USB also generally has to navigate through a smaller bus before being introduced on the same bus level as most Ethernet devices (once again, not always the case).

There's a chip on the mb of the PS4 that does the same, so it doesn't seem to be a problem. If its hardwired, I can't see adding any noticable lags.

Let me simplify it for you...

If you attempt to use Ethernet over ANY form of USB, you will incorporate latency. I don't care if it's noticable or not to you...

I don't know why you brought up the PS4, since it already has an ethernet port, so the problem doesn't exist (unless you're using an ethernet USB dongle, to which everyone would ask "why?"). We're talking about Ethernet over USB, not straight ethernet connections...

EDIT: I have to add how incredibly hilarious it is to believe that something hardwired means infinite efficiency....

What PS4 have hardwired with Zlib is video stream compression/decompression for the share function, don't know anything about ethernet or wifi having dedicated chips to help using over USB.

Once again, PS4 Eihernet is NOT over USB. It's not a hard concept to understand.....look at my previous reply.

I don't give a rat's arse what kinds of other things the PS4 is "hardwired" with. The topic is about Ethernet networking vs Ethernet over USB networking.

I know (hope) you are joking, but my PS3 have gone through at least 100 disc games, averaging 10+h week over the last 5 years (with some peaks of 20~30h on weekends) and still no sign of wear. I passed my 12 year phase long ago.

Don't know on what I disagred with you, but Ok... As I said I'm not aware of USB/Ethernet "facilitation" on PS4 and never saw a topic about it here or elsewhere.

Maybe you should spend some time to read the thread before jumping in with your eyes closed in an attmpt to find some way to contradict me. This isn't the only thread you've been doing it in...

I'll have to post how many responses saying I WASN'T CONTRADICTING YOU??? Was agreeing with you, sigh.... I read the whole thread. Maybe you have some persecution mania?

Contradiction through correction (even thought your attempted correction was wrong). For some reason, this whole PSNow thing has really gotten to you...

Makes sense...

And seems like I corrected him because I said PS4 have some chips to compress/discompress audio... I'll let he live in his special world.
