3DS is really showing that the main reason for PS4 beeing sold out is more due to relative low shipments. And of course handhelds and stationary consoles can be compared, both do basically the same, they are all dedicated videogame systems. There is a difference in price but the same can be said about PS4 and Xone but it obviously gets compared anyway, to me it seems to be just an excuse because it easily outsells PS4. So an obviously better selling system like 3DS has been said to be in trouble while the far less selling PS4 not. Oh the irony.

They're not the same just because you say so.

3DS sales should be divided by 3 when comparing to console, because I say so.

Do you like that?  I have some logic to back it up too.  Portable with 5:1 software ratio and $40 games versus a console with 10:1 software ratio and $60 games means one portable = about 3 times less $ worth of games sold.

You can do whatever you want. But it´s ridiculous and obviously just a way to ignore a videogame system that is doing far better than PS4. Funny and ironic that it seems to be actually the one that has been pictured as beeing doomed even with far better sales, in December 2011, 2012 and this year.

Western publishers haven´t supported handhelds for a long time now, so it´s quite obvious why they don´t generate this extra revenue. Looking at Japan on the other hand, we get a whole different picture, they actually support handhelds, therefore handhelds are the systems that actually sell far more software than any console, many even put their former console main series on handhelds. So it actually comes down to support. In the end they do the same thing, offering videogames with more or less classic button layout, the major difference is one is portable the other is not.

That's fine but PS4 & 3DS are not competitors.

The current benchmark for portables is the DS.

Vita is a big failure versus the benchmark, and versus it's own predecessur.
3DS is doing well but is behind the DS by about 30%.

3DS is the best selling videogame system in the market right now and did even better last year . What I wanted to point out is how funny it is to read posts about what a huge success the PS4 is, while some of the very same people were saying how mediocre 3DS was selling not a long time ago. Just pointing out the irony and the double-standards.

The one thing I've taken from this thread: If your console of choice is getting slaughtered by another console, ignore it and use your favourite 'handheld' to compare instead. Grow some balls people.

Also if your handheld of choice is slaughtered by another handheld, ignore it and use your favorite console to compare instead ;)

My handheld of choice is the Vita and it's getting soundly beaten by the 3DS ... Your point?

I believe it was last week that the 3DS sold 666,000 units and I was so disappointed that no one mentioned 'the beast' :)

PS4 should be overtracked i guess, hopefully they didn't for 3DS, it's killing in there !!!

That was not particularly targeted at you. Just a general observation. Even though I have a Vita I don't consider myself to have a stake in the handheld war.

In that case, I'm sorry :)

I didn't note the wink at the end of your post. I'm just getting really fed up with the way some people have to take a conversation in the completely opposite direstion because they can't face the real conversation.

Interesting to see how people ignore 3ds sales on these threads.

That little thing is just beasting. It beat every main brand combined that week and is just crushing its main competitor.

Hardly a videogame console sell that much in any given week. Amazing.

Oh the numbers don't matter themselves all that matters is that is down YoY so that means it is doomed, no point in talking about it.

Clearly most weeks it will. PS4 will be selling there and this taking a substantial chunk of the market. Wii U won't have weeks like this very often in Japan and Xb one will be selling in more markets. Xb one has more room for price cuts in the medium term, probably be $50 cheaper by this time next year is my guess. Xb one may also be a bit supply constrained in USA but this week's number could also be a reflection of the real relative demand between Xb one and PS4 we need more databefore we can draw conclusions. Fact is Wii U is weak everywhere but Japan. The true picture for Xb one outside USA can't be known until it is released in all markets. In USA Xb one will sell considerably better than Wii U. I think prospects for Xb one are better than for Wii U all things considered.

And yet there are three WiiU games selling better than any PS4 or Xone game in the US...

Two of which are hard bundled, and all of which are Mario games

yeah, it shows how mario games are still selling well =D

Pocky Lover Boy!

I'm glad the ps4 is doing well. I'm surprised bye it's success so far, though.

The real conversation? More like the direction you would like this discussion to go. Are you aware that this thread is about all videogame hardware sales?
