keep telling yourself that. I'll side with the evidence, you keep siding with the talking snakes

We'll see who's right when the world's foundations tremble at the end of time. I have no doubts personally.

And we have reproducable (scientifical) evidence on our side.

Beats the shit out of wishes and dreams :) !

It seems obvious to me that we will continue down the path we have already been going down. From the dawn of civilization we have been fighting against nature; which to be quite honest, wants to kill and eat you.

If we are successful the natural selection process will become less and less relevant for humans, to the point of being a non factor, and will eventually be replaced by us modifying ourselves to adapt to changes in the environment; most likely by surrounding ourselves with increasingly sophisticated tools and by merging technology with our biology. It's just much faster and more efficient to enhance ourselves, and therefore more likely to be successful, than waiting for natural selection (very slow process).

If you think about the human body as the base than we have come a long way toward this already. From the most simple tools to the highly sophisticated ones we carry in our pockets. We have houses to keep us warm and safe, glasses to help us see, cars to make us run faster and go farther, telescopes to help us see father, internets to help us waste time in the middle of the night on Christmas, etc...etc... Who needs to wait around for evolution when we can make tools that do a better job of meeting our needs. What I do see is us becoming significantly better tool makers and users and a willingness to keep those tools very close to us at all times.

One of the most obvious things is our creation of and merging with communication based tools designed to advance our senses. By merging with or immersing our senses in technology like augmented reality glasses we can potentially significantly enhance our senses. It's a natural progression toward abandoning the confines and limits of our physical bodies. Why see in front of you when you can see anywhere in the world, why only be connected to those in your physical space when you can be connected to anyone in the world, etc, etc....

In addition we will use those tools to enhance reality by fully merging it with a sea of information, which will become as much a part of that reality as reality itself (my guess is visually overlayed in holographic form). We are in the very infancy of this now but eventually I see this giving rise to some form of 'digital man'. Beings which, from our current perspective, would seem almost in-human.

Or nature will totally kick all our asses, Kevin Cosner will make a comeback, and we'll all be reduced to drinking piss water and fighting in heavily armored 80's cars against armies of genetically enhanced apes.......

So, what you're saying is we're gonna turn ourselves into Terminators? I'm totally down with this

I bet this guy has no doubts either...

It's really scary that people believe an apocalypse is gonna happen, and, in the case of a "rapture", they want it to happen. But hey, the guy believes the world is on "foundations"

I don't think we have much to worry about with regards to the "end of time". If the "end" comes, we'll have evolved enough to "beat" time ‽

I don't know if it's scary with someone like padib, he's probably just your average decent guy outside of a few cooky ideas he expresses on a gaming forum... it's scary when they suicide bomb, or when they get into power and legislate, or when they indoctrinate their children etc.

This thread is why religious discussions need to be limited to their own forum.

This topic is something really cool to have evidence-based discussion about, but it's impossible to do in this environment.

I think the human race itself won't change that much. The average of, for example, our intelligence and/or length, will be around the same because of gene drift by airplanes and stuff. Michael Pachter getting children also proves intelligence isn't a keyfactor for women at all. However, I do think a lot of diseases will occur more frequently because medical science has already come this far. People who usually die without treatment will get children now and their children will also carry genetic diseases and/or are more vulnerable for external factors. Natural selection somehow 'thinks' that having genetic disorders is a benefit for survival (unless the disease is EXTREME and you die immediately).

Evolution itself is a simple concept, but when predicting our future based on those laws it becomes REALLY complex.

We will become dumber. see idiocracy.

NO seriously if you want a positive thing I guess we will adapt to all the multitasking stuff.

Lack of common sense and stupidity have existed since the 1st humans existed and will continue to exist as long as we exist. I've seen very highly intelligent people do stupid things. It won't escape us.

For us to achieve the technology that Extraterrestrials have, it will take thousands of years. Question is....Will we evolve into what they are now?

And what does that have to do with me, and what about that guy, do you know what he's protesting for?

If you're assuming he's some kind of violent extremist you're just being racist.

The point I'm making is not to make him out to be a violent extremist, but that he's a muslim, and is probably very passionate and deep-seated in his beliefs, just as you are in yours. I'm trying to give you perspective. You can replace it with a picture of a cocksure jew, scientologist, or athiest and my point is still that our collective scientific and spiritual knowledge is negligible when trying to understand whatever the fuck the universe and existence is, and the way I see it, you have a screwed up, arrogant perception of the world around you if you think you have the slightest clue more than anyone else.

I definitely have more clue than someone who's arguing the point of "the foundations of the earth", I'm sorry. I can be humble all you want but there's a limit. (yeah, I'm looking at BMaker)

For the rest, of course I agree with you, and I'm pretty sure I agree with you on much more than you think. If that's what you meant by the image, then of course I know what you mean, but it doesn't change the fact that I consider Evolution a fairy tale by virtue of its concept, irrespective of my beliefs.

Fair enough.
