According to everyone there can only be one winner.

There really was no winner last gen though.

HOW???

PS1 and PS2 win their gens in sales: "Sony wins those gens they sold the most!"

Wii wins its gen in sales: "PS3 had the better games, it still wins!"

Sony fanboys are so delusional. My god.

Facts:

PS3 consistently sold at a loss at first. Sony's first party games didn't sell that many. Sony sold 81 million units.

Wii always sold at a profit. Many of Nintendo's first party games sold over ten million. Nintendo sold 101 million units.

Nintendo also dominated handhelds.

Conclusion:

Sony won! Derp derp

Too early to tell...

The PS4 has most likely already sold half or more of the Wii U's sales in less than a month and a half. Its expected to pass it by Summer.

We have no idea what the curves will be like for the PS4 and X1 after the holidays. The WiiU also sold fairly well in its first few months on the market.

It's still much too early to tell.

The WiiU fell of a cliff after the holidays because of a massive software drought. The PS4 and XBO will have games coming out in January, February, and March.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Actually the PS3 lost. It would've even lost if it outsold the Wii. The 2 generations before it had no competition but last gen it created strong competition due to general idiocy by itself.
So yeah, PS3 lost big time, not only a huge amount of market share but also consumer trust.

Cause if we learned anything from last gen and the handhelds of current gen...

Nothing is set in stone, and things change.

huh? wii was dominating from the get go and even in it's worst moment the 3ds was doing better than what the vita ever did, in the case of the wii U it's still trending below gamecube numbers

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Both systems are selling at/below manufacturing prices and Microsoft/Sony is making a killing off subscriptions.

The first earnings reports will show huge losses, as has been the case for PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox and Xbox 360.

The OP sees everything from a childish one-dimensional point of view. "Making a killing of subscriptions" don't mean squat.
Respected, twenty-year Microsoft analyst Rick Sherlund put the xbox one initial loss at S1bn.

“Overall, after we include sales and marketing, R&D and G&A costs, we think Xbox is likely to lose money this year, and after the allocation of corporate level expenses likely loses over $1 billion.”

Obviously as you correctly mentioned so will Sony and Nintendo already has.

The OP is talking about PS4 and xbone though. You make 0 sense claiming Sony had no competition in the last 2 gens. PS1 was their first and unproven console, they had no names or devs like Nintendo and Sega, Sony beat both of them to a pulp. PS2 was expensive compared to others, it was 499 euros at launch here in Europe. The Gamecube was 99 euros a year after it launched and lost terribly.

I also dont get what you mean with PS3 losing consumer trust lol. PS3 is outselling both 360 and Wii in HW and SW. If consumers didnt trust the console it wouldnt be the leading last gen console.

It depends..... if MS is lead by a new CEO that doesnt see the xbox brand as a viable part of MS, it could be sold off to another company. I dont see anyone handling the xbox brand as well as MS, it will prob be samsung and I dont think they would know what to do with it tbh.
