Forums - Gaming - Are multimedia capabilities a must nowadays??

Yes and no.

It needs to have the basics, the most popular stuff, like Netflix and Hulu. Once the top options are covered, the rest won't matter that much to most people.

However, the problem with the Wii U is that people aren't seeing relative value at that price. It costs too much for people to forgive a lack of features, be that perceived or real. People will buy a console that focuses on games--they just won't buy it if the price is near that of consoles with a lot more functionality.

Yes, if Microsoft had the stock its USA sales >>> worldwide PS4 sales. All my friends want an X1 but they are waiting to get one. Sony is only losing a few dollars off the PS4 and Microsoft is making a profit off the consoles. Both are making a ton of money off subscriptions and game sales and accessaries.

OK I don't know what planet you're on but good luck with it.

He is on some strange medication... or very young.

Multimedia capabilities is fast becoming a must in Europe... smart TVs that does it all and don't require a noisy fan or additional energy consumption is where it is at... read they were 20% up in the UK last week.

My TV does motion sensing, voice control, et al.

Probably this one

They aren't a must, but it's nice to have them.

Why isn't Xbox One = PS4 in sales right now then?

Microsoft can't ship as many. PS4 production started earlier and PS4 exists in about 3X as many countries. It is also 100 dollars more expensive. A PS4 is 399 and a Xbox One is 499. Microsoft is really killing sony in revenue

You really think they'd be selling equally if not?

Also, revenue doesn't matter when they're both losing money at those prices.

The x1 is supposed to be even or a slight profit isnt it?

And I actually agree with toastboy on this one, IF the x1 was the same price, released in all the same markets and was able to match Sony's production levels.  I would expect them to be even at this point.

As far as multimedia, I agree that it is a must.  However, they are all pretty equal in multimedia capabilities at this point, so not sure what the point of this thread is...

I just want my X1 HBO GO app before Game of Thrones comes back

Xbox One would be demolishing if it was 399 since it has better games AND multimedia experience. But then it would lose revenue.

As of now they're both selling at a profit.

I think they will lose massive amounts of money even after subs, games and the like are considered.

Xbox One is incredibly US centric. It wouldn't be selling hardly anything in the other markets. We'll see this next year when supply isn't an issue.

I think outside of the VGC/Neogaf bubble, nobody cares about the multimedia.
