Forums - Gaming - Are multimedia capabilities a must nowadays??

Nobody is denying the fact that the Wii U is selling horribly, is that because of the lack of multimedia capabilities? The PS4 and Xbox One have similar capabilities (besides the fact that Xbox One can watch TV and turn your tv on and off, and Kinect of course) right now in terms of non gaming features but I expect the Xbox One to end up with a lot more while the PS4 will be more centered toward gaming. I believe overall consoles with more multimedia features will sell the most. This isn't 1990, people demand that their devices can do more than one thing, I feel that this is one of the main reasons the Wii U will fail to reach a wide audience. Discuss!

Why isn't Xbox One = PS4 in sales right now then?

Microsoft can't ship as many. PS4 production started earlier and PS4 exists in about 3X as many countries. It is also 100 dollars more expensive. A PS4 is 399 and a Xbox One is 499. Microsoft is really killing sony in revenue

You really think they'd be selling equally if not?

Also, revenue doesn't matter when they're both losing money at those prices.

Yes, if Microsoft had the stock its USA sales >>> worldwide PS4 sales. All my friends want an X1 but they are waiting to get one. Sony is only losing a few dollars off the PS4 and Microsoft is making a profit off the consoles. Both are making a ton of money off subscriptions and game sales and accessaries.

OK I don't know what planet you're on but good luck with it.

Damn dude you just love ripping Wii U apart.

All I want is Netflix, which the Wii U has I believe. But not having Netflix wouldn't be a deal breaker, I could still just use my PS3 or PS4 or just get a cheap Roku box or something. I don't have a Wii U or Xbox One because I'm less interested in their games than I am in Sony's games. Maybe that's just me, but I don't know how much of a factor the multimedia part really is

The video store is a bonus, but I rarely bother, it's too expensive for my use most of the time. I do buy the odd episode of TV, but it's not a must have feature, especially with great on demand features with my satellite box (Sky + HD)

I guess people are not that fussed about multimedia capabilities, since the gamepad is excellent for that. TV guide + browser in your hand > overlay / snapped on tv. The gamepad can also turn your tv on/off, adjust the sound and change the channel either manually or through the guide. It even has a dedicated button for it on the pad and tv remote works without having to turn the WiiU on.

@Munkeh111 yes it supports Netflix amongst others. You can watch on tv or gamepad.

He is on some strange medication... or very young.

Multimedia capabilities is fast becoming a must in Europe... smart TVs that does it all and don't require a noisy fan or additional energy consumption is where it is at... read they were 20% up in the UK last week.

My TV does motion sensing, voice control, et al.
