Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I can't understand the Nintendo doom threads/sentiment

Now that all 3 companies have their consoles on the market I have noticed alot of Sony/Microsoft fans being very vocal about the demise of Nintendo. IMO the Playstation 4 looks like leading the charge in this 8th generation of consoles but the future is hard to predict..... So lets focus on what we know.

In the last generation Nintendo's Wii sold about 20 million more units than the competition and the DS sold over 140 million units and still counting, that equates to significant domiination. In the current generation with a year head start latest figures see them approaching 5 million units with Wii U and over 40 million units with 3DS which is outselling Vita more than 8:1.

Now I agree that the Wii U will probably be surpassed in 2014 by PS4 and even Xbone but Nintendo has sooooo much cash reserves and some incredible IP up their sleeve all this talk of them going the way of Sega and developing for other consoles is frankly a joke. A word of wise to Sony/Microsoft fans, pride is not power. Lets see the results you are predicting come in before you start to celebrate Nintendos demise....

Also, Nintendo have a 5-6 year cycle on their consoles and they are priced for this. Sony/Microsoft have a longer cycle, they release higher spec consoles in the hope they cut the mustard for 6-7 years. So, the fact that Wii U came out a year before the others and with a shorter cycle means it's possible the 9th generation Nintendo console may be out 2-3 years before the competition with much higher spec.

And one more thing, I find it intertesting that while Nintendo does appeal to younger gamers thay have a massive older gamer fanbase. This is proved by the fact that they focus so heavily on retro titles and using old IP for new titles. This would not occur if there wasn't a fanbase of 30+yr old gamers who love Nintendo. Many of the people who frequent this site say Nintendo is too ""kiddie" for them - are they are kids! Take it from me kids, the fascination of explosions and gratuitous violence will dissapate in the coming years and once you get over this games like COD will bore the shit out of you and you will be looking forward to a trip through the mushroom kingdom.

I need to stop buying games...

It's little more than playground bullying, really - waiting for someone to fall before kicking them. The biased ravings of fanboys (regardless of their persuasion) are no better than flies - a small sound in the ear that can be easily swatted away.

What bothers me more are the poor excuses for journalists you find around the net, with their sensational headlines, misreporting of sources and biased articles.

I thought we're over with this "Nintendo/WiiU is doomed" threads.... but now many "I hate these Nintendo/WiiU is doomed threads" are incoming....

When you think my english is bad...sorry for my bad english,    i'm from Germany. And yeees, sorry, that we've almost destroyed the whole world, blahblahblah

They are saying the Wii U is doomed since it wasn't even out yet.
Now it's alive more then 1 year and it still sells, so I don't see why it's doomed.

Doesn't bother me. I just laugh at them and go back to enjoying my Wii U. It's less annoying than the "Nintendo is only for teh cazuals!" banter of the previous gen.

I don't know how Nintendo's financials look right now, but it really doesn't matter how much Nintendo made with the Wii if their current system is losing them millions. As a business, you can't rely on past successes to cover up for a present liability -- investors won't be satisfied and using your reserves could mean the inability to pay off debt in the future. Maybe the 3DS will keep them afloat, but until we know how much money they're losing and have lost on the Wii U and how much profit the 3DS is making -- it isn't unreasonable to be unsure about Nintendo's future. Sony's situation is much much much worse than that. Microsoft is the only one truly in a good position.

really? you can't understand why there are so much doom threads, when its selling worse then dreamcast and third party support for the console is a about to go the way of the dinosaur, and after a year of being on the market, it already saw a 30% price drop. wal-mart is selling the wiiu delux with nintendoland for 249.00, thats almost the same price as the ps3 in only one year in the market.

A lot of what you say is true but to a degree we do know that Nintendo lost money last financial report and since then things have gotten better for them.

For a start at the time the report was published wii u was selling 25k globally and Pokemon was just out.

Of course the future is uncertain no matter who you are but as things stand it is a damn sight better for Nintendo now than a few months back.

Only the gods and time know what will happen so to knock people for being positive or negative predicting nintendos future is not exactly scientific.

This is the problem, only it is not only journalsists but lazy, untalented and fanboy developers like DICE and Crytek as well who can make pretty games all day long but can't make a good game to save their lives.
