Well, if you have 2+ kids I think a Wii U is more fitting. It is especially better in the fact that it allows them to play together. Also, 3D isn't good for those 6 and under anyway. It is easier to regulate a home console than a portable device anyway.

Wii U with Nintendo Land, Wii Party, Mario 3D

Basically, it's a great social console that the entire family can play together on at the same time, with some great games. I'd also definitely recommend Rayman.

Plus Ninty needs the sale.
