1. Let nintendo do their job.
2. Stop complaining about the sales, if you don't like it... that's ninendo's job (not yours) to boost their marketing or shit. They've been doing this for more than 100 years (literally.)
3. No games? how many games did you bought? is it enough? then start buying games.....
4. give wii u as a gift to your kids, nephews, nieces, or grand kids.... if you really want to help in their sales.
5. if you know better... apply in nintendo. If they didn't hire you maybe you DONT know any better.


6-10. nintendo is just another entity and if you really care about games... you would be happy on what they are doing unless you own their stock... it shouldn't matter; and if it still matters.... buy their stock or you need a VIDEO GAME ANONYMOUS.

I didn't add fire Iwata to my list, but it's probably a good idea. He's a nice guy. That's good in life, but bad as a CEO. You have to be cutthroat and aggressive in this business. They should have bought more companies during the Wii/DS glory days, then the Wii U drought would not have happened.

Anyone that does not take the above into consideration before writing one of these articles is a MORON.

And dont think for 1 second the PS4 and Xbox One will be selling huge numbers for much longer.  Once the hardcore have theirs and those consoles go through the same games drought the Wii U has, their numbers will plummet.



Nothing will save the WII U.



1. Fire Iwata or at least educate him on the Western fans.

2. Give Mario a rest. They've been making so many Mario games that it doesn't have that appeal that it had that would sell consoles.

3. Make an ethernet port on the Wii U.

4. Put a headset jack on the pro controller and make it usable without the main gamepad.

5. Buy Platinum games.

6. Give the 3ds a break and create more Wii U games. The 3ds is shitting on everything and already has a good library.

7. Implement an achievement system. (Seriously, why wasn't this done?)

People say it all the time, but it DOES NOT make sense for Nintendo to abandon the gamepad. It's not setting the world on fire like the Wii remote did, but it's still what sets the system apart. Take it away and you really might as well just buy a PS3 instead. The gamepad isn't the most innovative thing in the world, but it's innovative at all, and it's a big selling point if they start using it right.

Yes, the system would be cheaper without it. But the system is going to get cheaper down the line anyway, and dropping the gamepad would increase sales now at the expense of sales later. You've got to look at the big picture. In two years when the Wii U is $250 and has a big heap of games, people are going to be happy they still have a gamepad to play with.

In Rough Chronological Order:

  1. In January, have a major Nintendo Direct announcing release dates and/or windows for games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros 4.
  2. Also, give information about a game that's not been revealed yet. Remember how Wind Waker HD screenshots were shown well before footage was available? Do that sort of thing again.
  3. As soon as possible, improve cross-platform compatibility with the 3DS. Combining the accounts and uniting Miiverse was a good start, but cross-platform purchases for at least some games, even Virtual Console and eShop exclusives, would be ideal.
  4. Expand the Virtual Console. It doesn't have to be 10 huge hits a week, but even three to five a week would be ideal. That would be about 200 games a year, and at least 500 titles for the rest of the Wii U's existence. That may sound ambitious, especially considering how in North America, the Virtual Console for the Wii only has about 400 games and there's been trouble making emulators for 3rd party hardware on the Wii U, but I believe it could be done. Even if you're having trouble getting 3rd party support for non-Nintendo consoles, remember that you can still expand the service to include N64, handheld, and select GameCube titles that work with the Wii U's analog triggers. If you combine the 3DS and Wii U virtual consoles like suggested above, these game could also be used to bolster that library. In total, you could have 100 NES games, 80 SNES games, 40 N64 games, 40 GameCube games, 60 Game Boy games, 40 Game Boy Color Games, and 100 GBA games.
  5. Find out which non-Nintendo studios make high quality games, and offer them a chance to work on Nintendo series. This has not always worked before (Metroid: Other M, Star Fox Assault, etc.) but it has worked enough for it to be a viable strategy, especially with IP's not currently being used by Nintendo. (Luigi's Mansion 2, Donkey Kong Country, Pokemon spinoffs, etc.) At very least, your library could have an extra couple of titles a year. Working with Platinum is a good start, but how about giving them a choice of series they can work on?
  6. Release a new Wii U model with more storage space. Many people deride the Wii U because they can't go "all-digital" on its 32 GB of storage. Even a 120 GB model, released without any games bundled with it, could be alluring. If you don't bundle anything with it, you wouldn't even have to cut the price of the 32 GB bundle yet! Just give an option for people who like digital downloads and despise external hard drives.
  7. Hold regular sales for games on the eShop. You've already started experimenting (the 30 cent thing was genius), but if you do this on a regular basis ala Steam, that would be useful. Even if new price cuts came only once a week, that would still encourage people to turn on their systems once a week and visit your store. That would be a great way to keep people engaged and buying things.
  8. Rerelease game from the Wii in HD. Lots of people would be interested in a Xenoblade or Metroid Prime Trilogy HD bundle for $300. Hey, it worked for Wind Waker!
  9. Advertise better. Don't just say the Wii U is not the Wii. Attack the PS4 and Xbox One head-on. Say "Our console is $100 to $200 cheaper, comes with free games, has exclusives you can't find anywhere else, can actually play older Wii games, and also plays 3rd party games like Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Batman, Watch Dogs, etc." I believe the Wii U is the best value of the 8th gen consoles. Spread my beliefs!
  10. Stay your main course in terms of your current sotware development. Maybe the Wii U was a fundamentally bad idea, but aborting it now would only cause even more trouble. Let your big studios do what they do best with the current hardware, and at least you'll keep your core fanbase, if all else fails.

DO NOT:

  • Appeal to third parties. Even exclusivity deals may backfire, regardless of your platform being ideal for development. Remember the Capcom 5? Use 3rd parties, but only when you can truly control their products, like when they're using your IP's.
  • Remove the gamepad. Without it, you have nothing left to make the Wii U seem interesting, even if it makes the console cost an extra $50 or $100. Plus, most of your older games would lose interesting features or become unplayable.


Fun topic..

I've always been, and still am a strong believer that Wii U has a ceiling of SNES-like sales/success levels, but this is ONLY under the condition that Nintendo does all of the aforementioned things (yes, because some random dude on the internet in his late 20s obviously knows better than a multi-billion dollar gaming company lawl..) If they stick to the path they are on unfortunately I see a floor of slighly-better-than-Dreamcast levels. Luckilly Nintendo is far better off financially that a DC success level will not put them under. But anyway, these are the 10 things I believe Nintendo should do to reach that SNES-level ceiling:

1. Another price drop, and more bundles, including a bundle that does not come with the gamepad. They could probably sell this at $150, as much of the cost likely comes from the gamepad. I also believe the Wiimote has more appeal than the gamepad, so Nintendo needs to go back in this direction.

2. Create more software that focuses on the motion plus stuff with the wiimote rather than the gamepad (obviously this goes hand in hand with point 1)

3. Pokemon MMORPG..nuff said (if ANY game would go perfect with the gamepad, it's this one)

4. Go back to Zelda's roots, similar to what they did with Mario. Zelda has strayed too far from its more difficult, fast-paced arcade style roots, and its declining sales show this point. I believe Nintendo will revitalize this franchise and create a blockbuster if they go down this route with the next Zelda. Make it top down/2D style, but at the same time, you could still show off some pretty HD graphics. The best of both worlds!

5. A truly NEW new super mario brothers; that is to say, a game that stays true to the classic 2D style, BUT at the same time has brand new mechanics, powerups, characters, and most importantly, new WORLDS. Think Mario 3 to Mario 1 transition or Mario 3 to Mario World.

6. Online achievement system. I know it sounds ridiculous and insignificant but there is a large portion of gamers out there that are increasingly into the e-penis thing of showing off their gaming achievements. This could help to reignite some interest in some people playing Nintendo stuff, at least on a minor level.

7. Unified account system. Give people more incentive to invest in your software digitally

8. Work to grab more exclusive 2nd party stuff like Bayonetta, but perhaps with more software with mass appeal. Since third parties are a lost cause, go with the 2nd party to help fill the gaps of the inevitable droughts. Absolutely FLOOD the Wii U with endless waves of quality games so that eventually, self respecting gamers will have no CHOICE but to invest in a Wii U. Coupled with a price drop, the sales will be almost inevitable at that point.

9. Create a new phenomenon type of game that appeals to non-gamers/lapsed gamers. By this I mean, a game that follows in the spirit of Wii Sports/Fit, but one that is entirely new, and draws in the masses again. Wii Sports and Fit sequels simply won't cut it, as they are simply following a path already forged, rather than create a new one. Perhaps consider reviving the vitality sensor thing, and create a "relaxation" game. This could particularly be huge in the frantic paced society of America.

10. Create new CORE franchises. focus on the genres in which your lacking. Maybe a new RPG or action game from Nintendo? How about a brand new Mario RPG game from Nintendo and Square? How epic would that be??

Wii U will just NEVER reach Wii levels of success no matter what Nintendo does. The writing is on the wall there. BUT it has the potential to at least perform decent numbers if only Nintendo will wake up a little and reexamine the elements that made the NES and Wii such hits, and apply them to the Wii U.



I read a great little opinion piece recently about how Japanese companies (Nintendo was used as an example) sit on cash too much and don't use it to advance their situation. Nintendo has absolutely done this and has wasted their cash reserves to not progress their situation. With that in mind, Wii U can still easily be a market leader. It just needs to provide buyers with motivation to choose it as their system of choice. You do that with games, so I:

1. Spend around $3 billion of Nintendo's aprox $5.4 billion in cash reserves to purchase a controlling stake in Capcom and Square Enix.


2. Capcom is streamlined and made more effiecent by focusing exclusively on Wii U. Deep Down and RE7 become Wii U fall exclusives in 2014. Excess mobile/MS/Sony specialized staff is either laid off or dedicated to porting titles such as Left for Dead and other old classics for eShop release.


3. Eidos re-established as its own division, focusing on western-flavored mature games currently lacking in the Nintendo lineup. Crystal Dynamics continues working on Tomb Raider, but Eidos Montreal and IO Interactive move on to new IP's once Thief and Hitman are completed. The new titles should be either 1st person or 3rd person shooters with a great mainstream theme of some kind and an online multiplayer focus.


4. Square Enix stremlines operations and focuses on traditional console and handheld RPGs. Final Fantasy will be on Wii U while DQ is on 3DS, KH sees releases on both. FFXV will be an exclusive title for early/mid 2015. An HD remake of FF7 is started. Mistwalker is hired to revitalize FF brand with lead role in FFXVI using a traditional FF style.


5. A new studio is created in the UK hiring former Rare staff who are currently making Wii U project independently. They are encouraged to work on innovative new games in whatever style they choose.


6. Platinum Games is contracted for 2 more titles: Devil May Cry 5 and Star Fox.


7. Retro starts a new vision of the Metroid universe.


8. X is pushed as a major new IP for Chirstmas 2014. Other titles such as B2 and YY appeal to other demographics, but with X and FF exclusive to Wii U, RPG fans should be flocking to it.


9. Wii U redesign as Wii HD or Wii U Lite or something of the sort. Innards are mostly the same, though maybe memory grows to 64gig. Exterior looks cooler and more different from Wii. Gamepad shrinks to about a 5" screen with an ergonomic pro-controller feel. This launches in fall 2014.


10. Massive new marketing push starting at e3 2014 where Zelda is revealed with mature visuals, epic feel. Free online is promoted. Money is given to Activision if necessary to bundle and promote the next COD with the system and promote the match making is free. MK8 fall bundle. Core exlcusives like X, Deep Down, FF, RE, Zelda, Tomb Raider and others are heavily pushed.


11 (oops - lost coint). The Wii-series is given much less focused and the teams behind those games are given a new theme of casual titles to work on. This games will be app-like and cheap to download. Their mission is to come up with the next Candy Crush or Angry Birds, and these games will be on both 3DS and Wii U. Multiplayer matches between systems are encouraged. These simple app titles may or may not appear on smartphones or Facebook as a way to attract those customers to move over to a dedicated gaming system (ie play 3 rounds of gimped version on FB, then see add for Wii U/3DS version with way better gameplay). These games are heavily marketed to grown up women and casual gamers in a cool way.

End result: system sells like hotcakes to traditional core gamers and casuals follow, especially with Wii U's low price.
