So, cinema isn't art?
There's no difference between Edgar Allan Poe and Ed Wood. Both worked with their souls into their projects.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the passionate work of hundreds purely because money is a motivating factor. If an artist doesn't put forth heart and effort, then I doubt the artist will ever contribute to AAA game development.

You pretty much contradictid yourself right there... the creation of a game can come from the soul to.
Just because you prioritize older, more primitiv forms of entertainment and ways of expression as art it does not mean that the newer form cannot have it own legitimacy as art for anyone who consumes it as such.

If movies are considered an art form, which it is, so must be videogames.

That's why a Van Gogh's paint isn't more "artsy" as Once Upon a Time in the West. Those are both reflections of human cultures in a certain point of mankind's lifespawn.
Ico isn't more artsy than Mass Effect, nor is it Heavy Rain worse than watching Breakfast at Tifanny's. Those are all pieces of art that may or may not entertaint the people, but they certainly reflect human culture. |
Ah, a post I can agree with. It bothers me when someone maintains that one game is more "artsy" than another. What's that even supposed to mean? "More creative" would be a better phrase, but that too has problems. Creativity manifests itself in countless ways that aren't always clear, sometimes not even to the artist.

Yes. Anyone who says they aren't, don't play them and their opinion is ignorance.

People tend to magnify as "more artsy" games that deviate from the norm. Certainly, you can say that there are more similar games to Mass Effect than to Ico. Problem is, people tend to then confuse this as if Mass Effect is no art, yet Ico can be.

I was just playing by your rules.

Ed Wood sacrificed his entire life devoted to his passion: cinema. Wouldn't you say that came from the soul?
He also sacrificed his life to cross-dressing, which was another one of his passions (on which I respect the man), and to alcohol, which led to his death.
Yes, but video games at the same time need to stop obsessing over this like same lame guy who's still obsessed with a girl from high school 10 years on.
The Last of Us is art, so is Super Mario 3D World, so is Tetris.
Yes ... you're an art form, video games. Here's your cookie, can we move on to other things now?
| kowenicki said: I am puzzled as to why you keep mentiong film when I never said Cinema wasn't art. |
I assume you mean cinema as "legitimate" art? Good. Now, let me try that again.
Is there any difference between Ed Wood and Sakurai, as far as pounding their whole soul into their passion?
