I think it's pretty much looking like Mario Kart or bust at this point. If MK can't "save" the system, then Smash Bros. sure as heck isn't, Mario Kart has wider appeal.

Agreed.  Smash is fan favorite and a great seller, but Mario Kart is on a whole different level.  Mario Kart Wii is the fourth best selling game of all time.  If Mario Kart 8 doesn't sell systems, I doubt the Wii U will even reach Gamecube levels.

Very true but they have adjusted numbers that are covered by it twice now this week and may end up having to do it a 3rd time in a week.

Businesses dont think that way really.  It isnt about being happy or sad at being "behind"  they have internal targets, measures and margins and those are all that matter.

Steve Jobs once said "Microsoft doesn't need to fail for Apple to succeed" to a noisy set of apple fanboys... he was booed, but he was right.

I remind my co-directors of this often, you dont need to "beat" the opposition or "crush" the opposition to be successful.

I would agree with you in most cases, but didn't Microsoft enter the market to win the livingroom?

The only system that disappointed me is the Wii U, I thought after Black Friday would start selling as much as the PS3 and Xbox 360. Incidentally, if PS3 numbers are right it surpassed my expectations, while the Xbox 360 is selling far below, but I think it is undertracked.

I really expected this because the XBox One and the PlayStation 4 are still popular because they are new compared to the Nintendo Wii U, what really matters are the sales in a few months when the hype is over about the XBox One and PlayStation 4!!!
