Forums - Gaming - Am I the only one not impressed by graphics anymore?

I played kz3 (which is one of the best looking games I have ever played), and then played kz sf, and I was stunned

You should have been there when we went from 16 bit to 32 bit.

I started gaming on the Atari 2600. I've been through every generation transition.

Although I wasn't there my uncle owns every major console that was ever released. A couple imported from America.

I have played them all. Saying that I do think the experience would have been different if you "where there".

From my point of view the gap was always significant with progression. This generation however was the least impressive leap.

However I have been told that the games will get better, at the same time I have read developers said they won't because of the already familiar architecture.

Either way I think the more power the better as better graphics help a game. Gameplay is always more important but I rather have great gameplay and great graphics than great gameplay and crappy graphics.

It's not like I don't want to be impressed with graphics. I do! That's why I bought Resident Evil Mercenaries on 3DS, The Bouncer as my first game on PS2, Gears as one of my first 360 games, etc. Whenever I buy new hardware, I try to buy a game to show off the power.

I can see the jump in quality from the 7th gen games to the 8th gen games but, for me, it hasn't been big enough yet. I want my jaw to drop like it did when I played SM64, MGS2, or Gears of War for the first time. Nothing released yet on PS4/Xbox One do it for me. I was playing The Last of Us and thinking to myself that I was pretty much satisfied with what 7th gen hardware could do. It looked good but, aside from the intro section, wasn't anything I didn't see in Uncharted 3 or Tomb Raider. I just assumed it was as good as it got. Beyond Two Souls kinda raised the bar a little, though.

I got my money right here for a next gen console. Now, they just have to amaze me.

It's obvious you have never seen Crysis 3 on Ultra

Ryse looks better than Crysis 3, I played through and beat Crysis on Ultra game looks great, not as good as Ryse tho, KZ Shadowfall is nice, but has a few things that really stick out and ruin the experience, like the rain drop splashes being noticeable 2d sprites( that mission where you are commanding those drones while the girl is hacking the console is where it is most noteable) as well as as you turn and look around the splashes disappear until you stop adn then a second later reappear and the character faces arent on the same level as ryse or crysis 3.

Obviously gameplay is more important, but given the choice of the same game, where one has better graphics (i.e. the PS4 vs. XBone launch titles), I'll take the one with better graphics.

In terms of Artistic Direction... Nope... I am still impressed by some of the games coming out

In terms of Polygon Count... Yes... Every game after Crysis 1 that went for massive amounted of polygon count seems to think that increasing the bloom, lens flair and motion blur = great graphics and there for can go to hell... I am looking at you BF4

Don't challenge leo-j in a graphics comparison fest.  He can not be beaten.  When his mind is made up, nothing will change it.

Just imagine what Ryse would have looked like on the PS4.
