Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo dodge the marketing bullet since the VGX actually sucked.

As the Holiday shopping season hit full swing, Nintendo could of used a good marketing boost by making a major annoucement at the VGX.

But little did we know Reggie was going to make the first Nintendo appearance to show the world wide exclusive new level of DKCTF and officially introduce Cranky Kong. Some might debate that it makes sense to try to increase exposure of a soon to be release game. But, if you think about it Reggie did not really cater to the audience that was watching last night, everyone watching already knew most there is to know aobut DKCTF and a major annoucement even if it was just a short 5 sec clip announcing Metroid U or Star fox U or Zelda U would of set the gaming media and social network a blazed with excitement.

But instead Nintendo drop the ball, the night could of been very bad for Nintendo if the VGX new format din't actually suck as bad as it did. Today news would of been about Nintendo not showing anything new and dissapointing their fans. But, luckily instead it was the entire VGX that sucked including Nintendo annoucement. I was actually getting bored watching the VGX and the dreadful interviews with developpers before Reggie came on the show, so the DKCTF annoucement was easier to take.

Hopefully we get a Nintendo direct entirely on WiiU that will blow our minds with information about 2014 before the end of the year.

Around the Network

i was personally disappointed with reggie's announcement, but perhaps it was because people hyped it too much...

Just because the show sucked doesn't give Nintendo any excuses from me. Better than if it was an awesome show, but if Nintendo brought say X it would have been given a lot of (needed) publicity.

I agree

Nintendo didn't need to make the VGX crappier by showing cranky kong. That was not an appropriate action given who the audience of the VGX was.

Around the Network

I wonder if they didn't have another announcement planned, but decided to pull it when they saw the quality of the show and the online reaction.

I think they were set up to announce Metroid/Zelda/X/something else later on in the show (I say Metroid because of the pin), but changed their minds last minute. The last hour or so of the VGX was rather sparse.

It was one of the rare instances where the big three combines their power to make the event the worst it could possibly be.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I didn't expect much from VGX and wasn't surprised by Nintendo's announcement. VGX is an incredibly poor poster child for the videogames industry, especially when you have a co-host lazily refusing to take videogames seriously. It's a dudebro advert fest that demeans the industry.

They didn`t dodge the bullet.

The hype was fair.
First appearance at what has always been a core gamer show and to present a new character in DK? They could have done that in the next ND.
They could have shown X, Bayonetta 2, but went with the worst option available (i repeat, available).

It`s not that i didn`t like the segment or the character, 'cause i really did. And the Metroid tease was really sweet.
All i`m saying is Nintendo had in it`s hands the possibility to do better and it didn`t.

The only thing worse than the cranky kong announcement was Joel Mchale. I wish I was able to mute him before he spoke. I also cant believe that Reg hyped it so much, even I thought it had to be a metroid or zelda preview of sorts, but.... well disappointment is a common theme for me for them.
