Forums - Gaming - Why do people care so much about framerate?

Framerate problems bother me alot more than resolution issues, since it can affect gameplay in a fighter, shooter or racing game for example. In some games it can be really troublesome, but in alot of cases you really don´t notice.

Depends how big the drop in frames are if its like 30 to 25 or 60 to 50 then its nothing and most will never notice. now 30 to 16 is something that may be an issue. honestly most of the time people exaggerate things in these situations though.

A noticeable framerate drop is something which completely ruins the immersion in a game for me.
Im not talking about the stupid framerate drops which people only notice from digital foundry, where its made out 2fps drop in a scene for a game is going to cause game breaking problems.

framerate drops from like 30 to 20 to from 60 to 40 are extremely horrible. Its on a similar scale, for me, as when audio is out of sync in a film. It ruins the experience. Maybe only for a few seconds, but a few seconds can break the great interest you had in what was going on, or can put you off and break your concentration.

A solid framerate is much more important than resolution,
resolution just improves the aesthetics of the game, framerate makes the game playable.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

I'm not too bothered by fps, as long as it is locked. Either stable 30fps or stable 60fps. To me a framerate drop from 60 to < 60 is as annoying as 30 to < 30.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

I get dizzy with bad frame rates. Frame drops break the immersion. Framerate is the biggest issue I have with GTA V; I think it is the kind of game that asks for better fps.

I'm actually one of the people that can't see a difference between 30FPS and 60FPS videos in blind tests, but it still affects me while gaming.
A few month back I tested it with Dirt 2 on my PC. I initially played with 2xMSAA and Vsync and had a minimum FPS of 30. Afterwards I disabled MSAA and my lap times instantly were a lot faster with a minimum FPS of 60. After I re-enabled 2xMSAA my lap times got worse again.

I can play 30FPS games and they are still fun but I absolutely prefer 60FPS in a lot of genres.
