Forums - Sales - Why are Forza sales not on par with Gran Turismo?

Mario Kart is to racing what Mario is to platformers.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

cuz GT has the bigger fanbase

There that was easy

Gran Turismo has brand name. If Forza was named Gran Turismo with the exact same gameplay and GT vice versa the sells numbers would switch.

It is like Iphones. It may not be the best but itll sell more than other individual phones based off of brand name.

Both are good franchises though and it is prob best to stop these arguments now between the two. Just enjoy which ever one you get. Most people arguing hasn't even played both so it is often times just uneducated arguments based off of one dimensional opinions.

Same reason FIFA consistently sells more on PS consoles than on Xbox consoles... it's a Euro thing.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Playstation is very popular in Europe where sim racers do best, and at a time sim racers were up there with the best selling, a time when FPS didn't rule all!

Has a much richer history as well, Forza is obviously getting there now.

If Forza can get to a steady 5m userbase that's pretty good all things considered.

Xbox fans on video game forums like to brag about Forza's meta scores but the userbase overall didn't show the love with their wallets. Sure it sold good overall but Forza's been bundled heavily this whole gen and needs to be forced on consumers to get it to sell it's ltd numbers. GT gets bundled a lot too but it doesn't need the bundle to sell it's initial 5-6 million on sales anyways.

Following the weekly charts on this site since 2007 I can tell you that Forza usually stalls at about 2.5 - 2.8 million before bundles carry it to 5M or so. It's a great series and a great alternative to GT for xbox users but it will never pass GT in sales.

The same reason why Killzone or any other FPS that Sony creates will never outsell Halo. The name brands are set in hearts and minds and a couple thousand video game forum users can't change that for either side.

The GT brand is powerful. I know 40 year old dudes who hold disdain for video games, and yet they play GT often. They even have PS3s hooked up in their cars solely for the purpose of playing it (or movies). GT was THE reason a lot of guys picked up Playstations in my country. Videogames were no longer for kids as a result. The brand just stuck with them.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Forza is the higher rated game racer and the self-proclaimed definitive racing franchise yet it has sold on par with with Gran Turismo boasting 6 iterations versus 3.

By all means the definitive racing game should have sold close to 30 million in the 8 years since it's reception! It's tens of millions of fans should have inspired a Spike Television show called Forza University, right?

or is it Gran Turismo's is to racing games what Mario is to platformers what Call of Duty is to Shooters, Gran Turismo represents racing in every aspect and way however much it's metascore fluctautes through every new iteration.

Sure GT has been around 7 years longer than Forza yet let us not make up excuses, the highest rated racer of the 7th generation shouldn't need an excuse and if it does, does that mean it's not definitive?

Is every GT6 thread here gonna be about metascores or what? On gtplanet they discuss the games, here all they discuss is how much they  get on meta lmao.

Nearly all of GT fanbase are +30-40 year old males who love driving, mostly they're not even gamers. They're unaware that teens on forums are arguing about their game lol.

Brand loyalty is a big part of it.

GT is still a quality series and both series feel very much the same. So why bother switching?
