Forums - Gaming - Nintendo should be strictly a software company and go enter the mobile market? Why not Sony as well, or Microsoft?

It's because Nintendo games>>>>>> Sony/MS games. Everybody wants to play Nintendo games, even Sony/MS gamers - while Nintendo fans don't feel the need to play Sony/MS games...

Seriously. I mean...what else is it? Because I know it's not cogent market analysis.

The Vita is getting curbstomped by the 3DS in a diminishing market for dedicated handhelds. Yet no one is saying that Sony needs to focus on smartphone games instead, despite the fact that Sony actually makes tablets and smartphones too. In fact, the Vita has the most cultish following I've ever seen for a gaming platform. I love mine and still find it kind of creepy TBH.

It makes no sense to me at all.

Yeah, saying that Nintendo should make games for smartphones, but then blatently ignores the fact that Nintendo is making more money in gaming than Sony and MS (combined?) and that Sony and MS is in more dire need of putting their games on smartdevices with that POV, is kinda stupid...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I don't really understand why the arguments are tied together. Nintendo could easily create mobile games while maintaining their presence in the hardware world.

I don't really even see how developing mobile games would hurt them. It's not like Nintendo doesn't make spin-off games quite often. A spin-off Pokemon title for phones would only increase the user-base, for example. A Pokemon Snap would be wildly popular. They could even use lesser franchises instead, like Kirby or Star Fox (!).

One of Nintendo's failings is that they often resist new trends until the market forces them, like an account system or a fully-formed internet infrastructure. At least they're getting into mobile somewhat with that Pokemon Tap app.

So are you saying that, sooner or later, all of the big three would have to make a transition over to the mobile market? Considering mobile gaming being a "new trend" and how MS/Sony are always keen on getting to the new trends first.

Nuh uh, as Nintendo is the only company that specializes in hand-held games.  Outside Japan Studio, I think most of the Sony studios only have to make a hand-held game if they've pissed Yoshida-san off somehow.  It's like the developer version of being forced to peel potatoes in the army.

That would explain a lot as far as franchise representation goes, LOL. XD

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

and because sony/microsoft hardware >>>>>> nintendo hardware. Everybody wants to play nintendo games, they just want to do it on a console that knows what multitasking and graphic card means.

Yeah because MS hardware is superior to Nintendo hardware. Oh wait...

But if Nintendo's crusade into the mobile world proves extremely popular like everyone is saying it would, wouldn't that force Sony or Microsoft to do something about it?

Ninendo should make a phone so everyone would be quiet

Yoshida-san "You didn't reach your sales target. I'm a disappointed. You know what this means..."

Developer "Please Yoshida-san, anything but that."

Yoshida-san"You will be developing two titles for the PS Vita"

Developer *commits Hari kiri*

Nintendo should go mobile but Sony and Microsoft should keep their legendary IP's out of the mobile market.

No one wants Nintendo hardware, ewww!

Microsoft might, regardless, because they want to control all devices.  That's how evil they are.  Sony ... I don't know.  Like I said, I could see Japan Studio doing it, but not the rest of World Wide Studios.  It's an entirely different structure from Nintendo and most of Sony's franchises don't really fit.  I could, however, see them acquiring other developers for that purpose.

I hate seeing this all of the time.  Everybody claims that Nintendo would make shit tons of profit if they released games of theirs on phones.
Why doesn't anybody think that Sony would benefit from seeing their franchises on phones? Uncharted mobile, or Gran Tourismo... Yeah...
How about a Halo game on mobile.

There is a halo on mobile and sony also has games on mobile (playstation island)

And peopel just pirate nintendo games on their emulators on mobile, so why not put a stop to that and port you damn games that released +10years ago to mobile??

It's not like nintendo still makes money of pokemon yellow or Super Mario Bros GB.

Personally I don't want them to go third party. I like exclusives, especially exclusives done with care and attention. That's Nintendo. Let them figure out the ins and outs of a specific hardware and make the best game possible for it. However, I would like for Nintendo to alter their policy stance in some cases. They're slow with respect to adapting and often ignore obvious things. Other than that I'm fine with them and have no issue shelling out $ for their consoles since the software makes the hardware purchase worthy - even without third parties.

It's like people crying over Tearaway not being on the PS3. Shut the fuck up and buy a damn Vita if you like it so much. The same with the Wii U if you like Zelda, Mario and company.
