Forums - Gaming - Nintendo should be strictly a software company and go enter the mobile market? Why not Sony as well, or Microsoft?

Because Sony makes great hardware, Im not happy with Nintendo hardware, its really hard going from Vita to 3DS XL because the screens are so awful. Yellowish tints, huge pixels making everything blocky, no real multitasking or other functions.

Yeah I do own both handhelds

Oh and comparing a controller to a portable system? Come on dude.

The point flew over your head. Sony puts great hw in their consoles unlike Nintendo. Wii U may be slightly better than PS360, consoles from 7-8 years ago. PS4 only costs 100 euro more but is ~5x more powerful. Why is the Wii U not comparable to the other next gen systems? Why not 8GB ram, more powerful cpu and gpu like the others?  Why does the 3DS Xl screen suck so much? Why are there huge ass blocky pixels on the screen? Why do they have a ugly yellow tint? Why no multitasking? From a hardware standpoint Vita is a  superior handheld, no one can deny that fact.

In terms of hardware:

PS4>Wii U

Vita>3DS XL

I duno why you're trying to deny this fact.

i buy a console for the games, not the specs.
Maybe only not the Xbox One, that Ill use for other thing rather than play videogames.

but Sony and MS have entered the mobile market, to a certain point. Isnt MS trying to do something with XBL on their phones. And you can access the PSN classics section on their own tablets and phones.

But people aren't just talking about Nintendo dipping their toes in or supplementing their current offering of hardware with mobile features, like with Xbox's Smartglass and the Playstation App. They go much farther, saying that Nintendo shouldn't be making ANY hardware at all, and should just focus on going third-party and/or mobile entirely.

everyone is entitled to their opinion. No matter how crazy you think it is. Personally in terms of their home consoles, the consoles themselves have been meh since the N64 IMHO, so MAYBE in that area they can fall back. But in terms of portables? Naw they are good there.

I don't know about going strictly software, and the reason they won't enter the mobile market is because it would cannibalize their handheld market. Why would Nintendo release games on smartphones and tablets for a few bucks a pop when they can release them at $30-$40 a pop on exclusive hardware that requires you to spend another $150-$200?

Consoles are a different argument altogether though, and personally I wouldn't mind seeing Nintendo exit the console hardware market. They've had blatantly inferior hardware compared to their competition two generations in a row now, and even when the did have consoles that could compete in terms of horsepower like N64 and GC, they would still make critical design flaws that severely impacted the long-term outlook of their consoles (expensive carts instead of CDs for N64, no DVD or online capabilities except PSO, and the GC just looking like a toy in general).

Why should I drop $300+ on a new console that is vastly inferior in terms of power and online infrastructure, and has a limited library of games?

Every console is vastly inferior to PC in terms of power and Wii U's online features at least aren't hidden behind a paywall. Both PS4/XOne also have limited library of games. Your post is almost like saying "why should I buy a new console instead of a PC".

This is because Nintendo tries to win the market by putting things other than the latest graphics into their systems usually in a manner to somehow enhance gameplay. Nintendo also likes to go for a lesser price and try to win people over by playing to the novel aspects of their hardware with software that shows it off. Also, I am not denying the fact that the hardware inside the PS4 and Xbox One compared to Wii U or the one inside Vita compared to 3DS is weaker (because it quite clearly is not), but I am saying that Nintendo's hardware has some key unique points that the others have and they are cheaper and reliable which is why I think Nintendo's hardware still has a lot of potential in the market.

On a sidenote, everyone has complained about the quality of the 3DS XL screen and that is because Nintendo built the XL later due to demand for a portable console with a larger screen but they also did not want to fragment their current base so they had to use the 3DS hardware within it (which would have pissed a lot of developers and buyers off) hence they could not have put a higher-resolution screen in it. The screen on the original 3DS is fine, it has a pixel density of about 230 PPI so you do not really see a lot blockiness and it is also 3D. Also the price of the 3DS XL and 3DS justify the lesser hardware put into them (I guess what I am saying is "you get what you pay for"). There are phones priced above PS Vita that do a lot more, have more power, and a better screen. but that does not mean Sony should abandon what they are doing and make something way mor expensive just for the specs (and ignore a big part of their audience in the process).

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

I think that Nintendo deserves to have their own console, they have done so much for the industry.
