Forums - Gaming - Why does the back of the case for xbox one games doesn't tell you what the video output or resolution of the game? Is it 720p, 1080p or what?

No its not. Thats like saying that $50 is the same as $100. Not true. Microsoft would have less sales if they put 720p on their game cases. People know now though. Ps4 outselling globally and their other major fan base in Japan hasn't started selling there so ps4 sales will increase even more.

You make me feel ashamed to call myself a fanboy.

They would only sell less if people had both consoles. How many people are that? And even then Microsoft won because they already bought their console.

It's not like people who only own an X1 have a choice in the games so why wouldn't they buy it? Because it's better to have no games than slightly worse looking games than the competitor whose games they will never see because they haven't got their console?

Or are you implying that people look first on the backs of all console games before they decide which system to buy?

Many gamers (95% of cucurent gen) are "casuals" and they do not look at the web every day to see opcomming games.. future resolution.. power and fps artickels.

But if you have 2 new system in the stores.. that are almost the same.. i bet a lot of people (casuals) would see the  "720p" as not that good as 1080p..

So i can understand MS..

Microsoft tell me why? You think they're hiding it? What's your thoughts?

All Xbox games output at 1080p unless the TV is 720p then they output at 720p.

Are you kidding me? For a moment I thought you were the OP.

 1. You think the same casuals who don't care to read about games elsewhere are going to care about arbitrary numbers on the back of a box? Most probably don't even know what it means.

2. Since when do any people decide which console they want to buy by reading the backs of games?

3. Since casuals don't look up on games on the internet or follow big conventions they get their incentive to buy games from commercials and ads. They decide then if they want to buy this game or not. Not based on any numbers. They won't even know or exepct that they are different on different consoles.

4. Casuals own only one console or only care about one console at a time. Why would they look on multiple boxes of the same game and compare numbers? They buy the game for the console they use.

5. No company would ever put anything on their box that would make their product look worse. That's why you don't see a sticker on every console that reads "achieved through child labour". MS does nothing bad or sneaky or desperate here. Also native resolution is not something that would normally be on a box. Apparently it can even change in the course of patches.

1. Yes.. The casuals.. looke at theese things when they decide to bye new producs.. Don't you do that when you shall have a new phone, tv,  pc or tablet.. Thats the only time they care.. when they put the money in..

2. many people look at the games (and the back) before they bye decide witch console they should choose.. (and i don't say it's the only thing they look at)

3. If they could read it on the box..? (the reason i said i understand MS)

4. Many casuals likes multiplat games.. and they know that all the version of lets say Cod.. are not the same.. at all.. (upad, last gen kinnect and graphic)

I think our definitions of casuals are too different to compare.

I say the box could even read "this game is better on the other platform" and it would still make next to no difference in sales.

Does it matter? Video OUTPUT and NATIVE resolutions are two completely different things. Almost every PS360 game lists their supported resolutions on the back of the box up to 1080p for example... that doesn't mean that the games are NATIVE 1080p.

Im talking about the xboxone. The ps4 is native 1080p while the xboxone is only 720p native on same games. You should progress not degress.

its pretty obvious you made this thread to talk about how some PS4 games have higher res than some xbox games. however its obvious you dont know what you are talking about. whats really important on the back of the box is the video output, not the native output. that way people can know if their tv is compatible.

there is no MS hiding anything here, no bad news and no secret meaning.

The back of the case doesn't tell you anything about video output or native resolution. Do you know what you're talking about? No. Do you think people would buy the game if it said 720p on the xboxone versions? No.

And this is why are current industry sucks. These are the current values taught.

Because of the scaler in Xbone all game are outputed in 1080p anyway, independent of native resolution.

It aays on the xbox one box itself what resolutions the xbox one supports. Why would it need to duplicate that on game boxes. The customer who buys xbox one knows from day 1 what resolutions they can use.

tell you what though, I like the yammering cases better than PlayStation ones

it's made of better plastic and has Xbox logo engraved onto top end of case, where as PlayStation 4 ones are very cheap feeling

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Thanks OP for confirming to me that i should buy an XBOX ONE first.

Too many insecure PS4 fanboys on here is really getting depressing and pathetic.
