We're on a sales site.  Have somebody look it up.  I don't pull this stuff out of my ass!

I suck at navigating this site.

I googled it and found this thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=4263  it's in the first post

"According to the data provided by the link above the PS3 at just under 40 weeks has outsold the PS2 during the same time period after launch. This means IMHO that the PS3 is not doing as badly as the media has suggested or that many people on this site have been so vocal about. That being said, it is reasonable to assume that the sales trend will continue and eventually outsell the PS2 in overall sales by the end of the systems lifecycle"

3rd reply: (on a side note, you should realize that the PS2 had a staggered launch as opposed to a worldwide laucnh like the Wii and PS3, this dampens Sony's PS2 numbers quite a bit, and puts the hurt on Sony's PS3 which can only barely beat its predecessor, which was only released in one territory for half a year)

But I did look at a couple of graphs and I guess the PS3 doom was a bit exaggerated.

Yeah, I read the thread too after I posted the link.  You gotta forgive me, though.  I'm an old man trying to remember something from like six years ago.

Reading the thread you linked past the first few posts shows why it's wrong doesn't it?

"WORLDWIDE PS2 NUMBERS DO NOT INCLUDE DATA FROM PAL REGIONS!!! Sorry I made that so large but this argument comes up every week ..."

EDIT: Beaten to it.

I'd align the launches if I could, but I don't know how to use this site either unfortunately :(

Yeah, but still.  The "PS3 was selling poorly until the slim" line doesn't hold true, either.  The PS3 always sold well.  Not as good as the Wii because that thing was a freak of nature but, aside from one year, it always outsold the 360 when you align their launches.  How does that make the PS3 an underdog?  The only thing PS3 struggled at was overcoming the one year of uncontested sales the 360 had.

Quit it, you're destroying my narrative for the PS3's titanic turnaround. I don't remember the 3DS selling poorly either for that matter and it had no competition.

To be honest, me either!  I was just glad to get my free Ambassador games.  I think the 3DS outsold the DS when you allign their launches, too--the DS exploded when the DS Lite came along, though.  Again, this is all from memory.

So we have several pages of a basically useless and wrong topic.
