I agree with this.
3DS with more or less no competition on the market vs. PS3 with massive competition.

"New Japanese book asks why PS3 failed" http://www.eurogamer.net/forum/thread/93569 (Reached #15 on Amazon bestsellers JP)
I don't see the same for the 3ds. I actually got introduced to this site because of these kinds of news- I became invested in it in PS3 sales in a sort of way.
3DS improved the most, while PS3 overcame more odds.
They both were strong victors.

That price cut before the Vita was even launched was huge. On the other hand, the PS3 was against a cheaper system that had a year's head start, not to mention all the exclusives that Microsoft paid for. What if the Vita launched first and got the first price cut? Who knows where we'd be at right now. |
Not to mention a little system called the Wii had all its momentum going for it in those early years.
Also the 3DS was able to turn around relatively early on in its life while the PS3 took years to overcome, making it that much more impressive.
You guys have some good points about both. I am leaning PS3 now because the reality was it was in real danger of failing, while the 3DS just was too expensive and had no games. It really makes me wonder what will happen with Wii U because in terms of mass appeal there are only a few games and it is defiantly in danger of failing if things don't change by 2015.

Vita IS competition, it's just extremely weak competition ;)
Anyway, PS3 hasn't changed much at least in my book. While the overpriced factor is now gone, it still only has a handful of exclusives I'm even mildly interested in (Uncharted series, LBP, Tales, Demon's souls - though after becoming insanely frusterated by Dark Souls, I may have to scratch that one off my list)
Can't prefer one over another. Both had huge amount of hope and gigantic predecessor and both failed in their early life. Congrats to both.

I knew from the start when a 3ds exclusive pokemon came out the 3ds would move.
as for the ps3, never thought it would pull even with the 360. that was unexpected.
I choose the ps3.

Seriously. The 3DS struggled for a couple of months and was fixed after a single 80$ price cut. The PS3 struggled for YEARS and took a 100$ cut in each of it's first 2 years and major third party releases. |
I don't exactly agree with you but still, the thing is where they got, the PS3 did amazing, 80, probably 90 million LT, after it's start that is impresive but the 3DS form being DOA (and these are not my words) to posbibly the best selling console ever is even more impresive, of course that's not a reality yet so we'll have to wait and see
PS3. 3DS was a great turnaround, but it was mostly expected by anyone with a brain.
PS3 man, that thing went from a total failure, to a solid number 2.
