The game helped move some hardware, but it's not like the other Mario Games moved a ton of hardware on their own either. It's the combination of Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda, and all the other exclusive Nintendo stuff that sells their consoles. I wish I could dig up every 3DS article I read about how smartphones had doomed it and that Nintendo should quit making handhelds before they lose all the cash they made from the first DS. Now it's on pace to somehow sell 75+ million lifetime. Mario 3D World will sell atleast 6 million lifetime and the Wii U will move atleast 60 million units. They most likely lose the generation in terms of sales but since they are the only one to make a profit will most likely find a way to dominate the next generation.
