Forums - Gaming - Xbox One vs PS4 vs WiiU - What decision should you make

I haven't had a game console since 2009 when my 360 came down with RLOD ( and I had to sell my original Playstation 60 GB in 2008). However, I have a snazzy new HDTV coming my way this Christmas, so I just made a list of the how and why I plan to get back into gaming.

First I plan to get the Xbox360 and I'm going willing to pay $250.00 for it because the $179.00 4GB Model is definitely not made for gaming, so I'll have to purchase the version with the 250GB HDD, and by the time I'm finally able to do so all of this week's spectacular Black Friday sales will be long gone. I'm going to get the Xbox 360 first even though I prefer Sony because it had almost all of the best versions of the best multi-platform games of the 7th gen.

As soon as possible after that I plan on buying a PS3 to finally enjoy all of the best console exclusive games of the 7th Gen ( unless they're all available on PS4 by the time I'll have the funds to get a new PS3, if they are I'll just jump to PS4.). I'm hoping that I won't have to pay any more than $200 for a Playstation 3 with a 250GB PS3.

If you're able to buy exceptional versions of all of the best PS3 games on PS4 in the very near future though, I'll skip buying a PS3 and go for PS4 instead. Out of all of the next Gen consoles, I plan to get the PS4 first because I think it's far and away the best pure gaming console out of all of them being cheaper than Xbox One and having by far the best tech for gaming under its hood. However, if Wii U drops its price to $199 during the next year and I haven't acquired a PS4 by the time of the Wii U's price drop, I might buy a Wii U before getting a PS4.

I like the looks of some of the distinctive indie games that I've seen advertised for Ouya, so I might buy an Ouya at some point since it only costs $99.00.

I plan to get the Xbox One last out of all of the Next Gen Consoles because of its prohibitive price point and because it's underpowered for games in comparison to PS4. I don't really care about all the incidental set top box qualities that the Xbone is trying to pride itself on.

I also made a list of the order that I would buy a handheld in. If I could acquire a nice android tablet for gaming for $100.00 I would probably do so as I've enjoyed several of the games I've downloaded from Google's Play store.

I don't think I'll try to get a 3DS until Nintendo gets the price down to $129.00. And I would purchase a Vita for $150 to $199.00 but only after I've acquired a new Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 ( or 4 ) and I would rather buy a first gen Vita than any other possible Vita model unless the only difference was a version with a larger screen size..

Where are you from? if you're anywhere in America.... pay attention to the black friday sales.... Xbox 360 4gb model is going for $129, GTA5 PS3 500gb is only 219$.....

The next price drop for Wii will be to $250 not $199 and that's probably not for a while now. Although you can it on Black Friday for $250.

Wii U is certain, but i cant have only it.
My doubt is to choose ps4 or xbox one (or pc)
now im inclined a little to xbox one. til 2015 i decide.

Seriously, if you wanna play NIntendo games, then download a Gamecube or N64 emulator, it's basically the same games.

Congrats for the dumbest post of the week award.

From an objective point of view :

If you cant buy 2 consoles iin 1 year,PS4 is the best choice, then WiiU later then Xbone if microsoft have enough exclusives.

If you can buy 2 consoles in 1 year, Wii U is the best choice for now, then PS4 next year

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Seriously, the WIi U is a kids toy, just like the Gamecube, if you wanna play NIntendo games, then download a Gamecube or N64 emulator, it's basically the same games.  The Wii U isn't worth it. I'll hope it will sell below 30 million because that's their install base, nobody wants to play on a console that just offers first party outdated franchises, the Gamecube had a lot more third party support and even then people didn't like it.

Mmhmm... 'first party outdated franchises' that are consistently some of the highest rated games of any generation.

And just in case you fell on your head at some point:  ALL GAME CONSOLES ARE TOYS

Bulltshit, I didn't say anything like that, what I said is that Wii U is generally a kids toy, much more than Xbox and PS, don't try to deny that and just because they are high rated doesn't mean people wanna play them. Wii U is crap.

You've obviously never own a Nintendo console to be making such a comment. Games like Metroid Prime, Super Smash Bros, Legend of Zelda and Mario are the reason to own a WiiU without ever having to buy a 3rd party game. Games aren't defined by just the graphic anymore, if there anyhting to be learned from the rise of the indie games. Its that gameplay and fun should be on the fore front of game development. Third party games of any consoles can't compare to the game produce by Nintendo hence why they prefer bringing their games to Sony and Microsoft were the 1st party competition is more on par to the game that they produce themself.

Just because a game isn't rated M doesn't make it a kids toy. There more to gaming then just Fifa, GTA and COD.

Well, getting all three consoles and a Steambox is a good idea. Downside is, I'm limited on time to play all the good games. As I think Nintendo offers good games, I made the choice already buying a 3DS, the best decision in console-gaming. Also I got a WiiU, because of Monster 3 Ultimate (and I hope Capcoms brings MH4 to a home console, whichever it will be, because MH plays not so good on a mobile console). I might get one of theother two options ... OR a Steambox. A Steambox should provide me access to most western 3rd-party-games (except maybe EA, but I lack interest in most EA-games really). For many of these games the better power of a Steambox should provide the ultimate version of these games. So this is an option I strongly consider.

FIFA has an M-rating? I thought FIFA is mostly played by kids. COD and GTA seem to be played mostly by adolescents, M-rating works as perfect advertising in this group. I bet the average age of players of Mario-games is higher than the average age of players of COD.

After getting my first hdtv in years today, I don't have the money to pick up a console too.  If I could, I would go for Best Buy's deal of an Xbox 360 with the 250GB hard disc drive, Halo 4, Darksiders 2, Batman:  Arkham City, and Tomb Raider all for $189.99.  However, I don't.  I wouldn't pick up either the 4GB version of the Xbox 360 or the 12GB version of the PS3 because I consider both versions with their miniscule hard drives to be unsuitable for much gaming.

I'm not willing to pay that much for a console that is 1/8 as powerful as the best console on the market when the latter is only $100 more..

Are you refering to the Wiiu? Because the PS4 is $200 and Xbone is $300 more then Xbox 360 would cost you. You shoulnd't really think of it as powerful but simply on which console will give you the most gaming time. You bviously don't have the money to buy a next gen console, but if you pick up a Xbox 360 today, and pay $189.99 with the game that you've mention. all of whihc average 10-15 hours of game time, that's a total of 60 hours minimum of playing time. $189.99 / 60 hours =  $3.16 per hours. Since you haven't own a Xbox 360, the backlog alone will give you countless hour of available playtime. All of the game would be discounted since their not new release on Xbox 360. The cost per hours of entertainment of your Xbox 360 would become meaningless.

Xbox One is the console for you if you have a family, or girlfriend who also likes games. It's an all around package of casual and core gaming plus, you have all the TV stuff for people who aren't into gaming.

PS4 is the console for you if you're a core gamer, and want the best versions of multiplatform games.

Wii-U is for you if you love Nintendo IP.

I was referring to the Wii U being 1 / 8 as powerful as PS3.  I wouldn't buy any console when its nearest and most powerful competitor only costs $100 more.  You're right about gametime value though.  I do consider PS3 and Xbox 360 to have much more gametime value than their nearest competitor ie. the Wii U justifying the purchase of one of them at $199 or $250 for all of the awesome 7th Gen content I missed.

Note:  I would buy a Wii Mini at $99 if one could play Gamecubue, Wii Ware, and Virtual Console games on it ( and I wouldn't have needed the tv).
