In the US, NFL games on PS1 and PS2 were huge though. And also, times change. FPS are to gaming what platforming was in the 80's and early 90's. If FPS just disappeared tonight? Gaming would be 1/4th what it is and alot of people would lose jobs.

No one's upset at the idea of a sports game or an FPS in general, though. What irks people is consistent re-releases with little to no innovations at all. If CoD or Madden released every 2-3 years with some attempt to shake gameplay up, people wouldn't have anywhere near as much problem.

Part of the reason software sales are going down in recent years is because publishers do a damn good job of making 1 game that, with continued support, keeps players entertained until the next iteration is released.

This is very unlike the way the market was 5 years ago, and is partly why publishers are moving more towards ways to monetize gamers once they're in the game (dlc, micro transactions). Expect more of it.

They deserve the hate, when the game ceases to innovate and is just a copy and paste from the last iteration with slightly upgraded graphics what do you expect? Anyway I still enjoy Call of Duty although Ghosts has left a bad taste in my mouth, I'm trying to sell it as fast as possible lol.
