Would be nice to see something fresh, and people cant say that its a bad idea as it will compete with Zelda. Nintendo already do that with platformers (Mario, DK, Kirby)

doesn't the popularity of things like cod, grand theft auto, skyrim, ect... really get rid of this theory though? More kids are playing that than adults it seems. And honestly, I see more adults and teens playing zelda, i rarly see kids playing. Its usually considered a more mature franchise

That would make the character lose its appeal, but I see Nintendo using this idea in the future. Zelda U maybe ?

I don't think it would really work out; remember how disappointing it was when Peter Pan grew up into Robin Williams? Another thing, Nintendo already has a middle aged character with Mario.

Not sure about "middle-aged," but we have had an... er... "older" Link before:

He didn't have a beard, sorry. But if it's any compensation, he might have had a beard before his face decomposed.
