Could the other 340,000 consoles of been sold in those 3 1/2 months?? Maybe...

 proving?

Well, according to http://consolewars.eu/messageboard/showthread.php?t=57515 the PS3 had at the End of 2007 754.000 units sold in UK. "Captain Smoker", who wrote that post, is a very reliable user and only uses numbers from official research companies. (I'll ask him, where he got that number)

So, in January the PS3 must have sold 246.000 units to reach the million. Thats simply impossible. Besides that, according to Chart Track both - 360 and PS3 - sold nearly identical in the last week - so the 360 then should have sold at least 220k in January... a very high + unrealistic number, too.

I think these are shipped numbers. Chart Track did not really confirm these numbers either... they said "SCE UK has confirmed..."....

That 754k number was from a readers digest survey and was an estimated numbers based on their own record to give Bluray and HD DVD numbers for UK. They were not Charttrack numbers.

Also, this doesn't explain charttrack claiming that the PS3 outsold 360 for the past month and selling equal for the last 3 weeks of last year while VGchartz says the opposite. Either PS3 numbers are too low (Most likely) or 360 numbers are over estimated by Vgchartz. Simple as that, either way.

According to chart-track in OPM, it sold 873k at the end of 07, so by now, I reckon that 1m is unlikely, but it will happen soon, the PS3 is undertracked

100% of the proof needed: Sony ONLY announces "Sold to Retailer" numbers, thus the 1 Million sold represents "Sold to Retailers." Being that vgchartz has (roughly) 850,000 units sold in the UK this implies that Sony has shipped 150,000 units to retailers in the UK which have currently not been sold to consumers.

Well, the 450k might also not be right, at least they are probably not chart-track numbers. Cause this article right after the launch of Halo 3 puts Xbox 360 at over 1.4M, which is more or less exactly at the end of the 3rd quarter and a difference of 150k compared to screen digest.

Btw, Munkeh111 says there is an article in OPM which states PS3 selling around 870k units in 2007 according to chart-track. If we can get conformation of this then the 1M seems a lot more likely than when the PS3 really "only" sold 750k until the end of the year.

Edit: I noticed Munkeh just posted the 870k number already. Any chance you can provide a scan I already mentioned in the other thread?

The deed is done

PS3 numbers have been RE-ARRANGED to 9.92..million
