The Gamecube actually had really good third party support. The idea that it didn't is a myth. The N64 had terrible 3rd party support as far as ports, but some really good third party exclusives. The GC kind of had the opposite problem, where it actually got a decent amount of multi-plat titles, but outside of a handful of notable mentions, a lot less third party exclusives.
Either way, it holds little bearing over the current state or future fortunes of the Wii U.

I agree with most of this except the GC was the only platform not to receive GTA, and that was the game of that generation. Though it did receive splinter cell.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

That was supposed to be the Wii U. If they launch another console at this point, they're done.
That's exactly how Sega got cooked.
why would nintendo announce a new system that caters to the same audience as the one they released a year ago?

Mainly because by that time most Western developers (to Nintendo's detriment many that were on the rise) were already tired of having to cut/super compress data for Nintendo's machine and began to drift away from supporting it. The fact is, there were titles that the GC could have had released in that generation that due to media type and aesthetic decisions Nintendo made before its release doomed it.

I call bs on the reason for GTA not being on the GC. Because the cg was a good amount stronger than the ps2. Which is why I'm positive that hardware specs mean nothing and is just an excuse by thirds not to support a Nintendo console.

True but the fact is Nintendo like in the previous generation with the N64 cart issue gave them that excuse and to have a open world environment, with all the music, NPCs and other aspects that GTA was know have, I can't see it easily fitting into one GC disc and no publisher likes to pay extra to have special Nintendo coded discs, defense against piracy or not, when they can go to competitor's systems with larger and easier to acquire media.
