Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo announces a new home console to cater to the ps/xb audience

Heck no! I'm not gonna buy two systems to have access to the same library a single system should have, especially when that library was already thin to begin with due to a lack of third party support. I mean, you'd either have to buy both or none at all, since only having one of two is not likely gonna be enough to satisfy you as they're bound to be software droughts galore. I bet most woild not even bother with either system as there's a handheld getting the best of both worlds and then some.

Couldn't the same be said about the portable and handheld lines?

No because they're different types of systems with unique benefits and advantages over the other. What you're suggesting is to split the Wii U into 2 systems that are basically the same just for the heck of it.

They tried that with GameCube... look how that turned out.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Frankly, it would be a terrible, terrible idea. For everyone in the big 3, the biggest hurdle is to convince your customer to buy your expensive console on which they either make little money, no money at all or even lose some. Once that's done, they just have to keep pumping the games on which they make the most of their money.

What you're proposing is that Nintendo doubles its problems with little to no benefit in the end. In your scenario, I wouldn't currently own a Wii U or a Nintendo Ultra because Wii U would have only NSMBU that interest me and the Ultra would only have Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker.

Nope, the Ultra would not have a tablet included, just optional. And the games would offer a very different experience, marketed to another audience, with more effort on the online model, etc.

I said "basically" the same. They'll both still get Marios and Zeldas and all that, but instead of only needing one console to access all those games, you now need two. Not a good situation to be in considering one could get access to more games just just buying a 3DS, PS4, or XB1.

Taking a look a thread title again, the purpose of this Nintendo Ultra is to attract the Sony/Microsoft crowd? If so then it's gonna fail no matter what, as hardware has nothing to do with it. It's all about the third partys, and no matter what Nintendo does they ain't gonna get their full support.

If nintendo wants any quick cash, all they have to do is release one game from any of it's exclusive franchises as a 3rd party game and EVERYONE will eat it up.

We talking more sales than GTA 5 easily.

And that's exactly the point of this and another thread I made, to see what Nintendo CAN do to change that, among other things.

Perception and marketing, branding is a big part of that.

As I said, there's nothing they can do about it, so best they just accept that and move on. Hopefully they'll do just that after this gen is over.

LOL don't expect 3rd party to come running if they released this console. The fact is 3rd parties are long gone. So your idea of this 3rd console for 3rd parties would be moot.

Nintendo's first mistake was selling up the IPs they had with RARE, should have bought them out.

Then they could have created some internal studios, or even outsourced to ones who demonstrate wanting to work well on a Nintendo system like a Shin'en with their eshop efforts.

They would have had a fantastic 1st party launch on Wii, with a KI, Perfect Dark and a Banjo, on top of what already come out. Then second year launch mario, zelda, third year smash, cart and a metroid.

These extra franchises in hand would allow Nintendo to take risks and try and create a new ip (kind of like uncharted started slow and then it become big) Then naughty dog become more respectable and the last of us was born. If the new IP failed miserably then no biggie as they would had a good amount of established  adult IP in their hands as backup.

Hell they didn't even put in offers for any of the THQ IPs up for sale. Could have picked up some nice cheap IPs and made them their own.

Nintendo need to rethink their own stradgedies rather than adopt others. I would have rather they had spent some of their huge cash reserves on expanding their studios.

So rather than release a new console that is call "Nintendo Ultra", they should open a studio called "Nintendo Ultra" that caters for all the game types missing from their current system. This studio can do "more realistic" games whilst the regular developers carry on with the "Pixar" type games.

The GameCube was about equal to its competitors and still got chewed by the 3rd parties. Equality doesn't always result in equality.

It would probably never happen and some would say it would be a bad idea but if I was president of Nintendo I would talk to Sony about cross platform gaming even if it is limited to the Japanese market. Obviously the games will be Nintendos. Now that would be a revolutionary change.
