Forums - Gaming - With the PS4 out and X1 nearly, can we say clearly Wii U's power failed to live up to next gen claims?

WiiU doesn't even get the PS360 ports right, or barely, with horrible framerate, like in Batman or COD recently.

So obviously there s no way, as expected that WiiU will get ports of the true next gen games that will come when crossgen cease. By the end of 2014, the WiiU will be totally on her own te get games.

To be honest - Not even the Xbox One is getting decent versions of PS360 Ports
CoD,AC4 and probably some other stuff are far behind the PS4.
Is this the fault of the console?Of course it is weaker than the PS4 but here the case is more than likely the Developers didn't have time or didn't want to invest more.
The WiiU has the problem the Developers don't care at all. They get it running and say screw optimization.
Look at the exclusives and how gorgeous they look - Not that only Nintendo games are great at gameplay, art style and stuff,no they also look so damn good.
But suddenly the 3rd Party is screwing around with games that aren't even able to touch the Nintendo Exclusives in terms of anything.

Nintendo doesn't have a Problem with the console or the hardware of the WiiU.If the One can get bad ports the WiiU could get them too.
The problem lies within the attitude and relationship between Nintendo and the 3rd Party.
What ever happened there they should sort it out.

Wii U is closer to PS4/Xbone than Wii was to PS3/360. We were right about that.

Pretty much this.

Wii to 360/PS3  was 20x Jump

Wii U to X1/PS4 is around 7x Jump

He also forgot to say PS4 will have 6GB available for games, instead of 5

The Playstation 4 reserves 3.5 Gigabytes for the OS. Thus: 8 - 3.5 = 4.5.
512Mb of that is "Flexible" thus putting it on par with the one.

No, it has been conifrmed by developers and insiders that PS4 can use up to 6GB for games.

It would be pretty insane for a console to use 3.5GB of RAM for its OS,no? Thats almost half of its memory

Is that a good applause or a bad applause?

Not currently they can't.
The developer kits have a couple of "modes" which will limit game development memory usage to 5.25GB max. (Normal mode is 4.5Gb)
If that's what the dev kits limit you to, you can't exceed it.
That is untill later on in the consoles life where Sony free's up more memory, the OS is still relatively raw, otherwise if they wanted everything tight before launch, then the console would have probably been delayed.

Sony's SDK documentation states that 4.5GB is the baseline amount of guaranteed memory available for games, currently. - One has to assume that will become larger as time progresses, that's not accounting for the confirmed flexible memory either, which can be added to that. - I'll take Sony's documentation as a more solid piece of information than a 3rd party who doesn't give out specifics or numbers. (Which is sad, I love numbers and specifics!)

I'm more than happy to be proven wrong on this, as that's a good thing for all pea... console gamers.

Also, hangovers really aren't great when dealing with forums. :P

Well, it's clearly not the case, proven now. Wii  U is not getting next gen versions of games. BF4, NFS Rivals, COD Ghosts, NBA 2k14, etc etc etc.

Wii U isn't getting any versions of most of those games. You think that has to do with power?

Man, since imo the best-looking Wii games make about 80% of PS3/360 games look like garbage, I guess this means I can expect the best-looking Wii U games to make about 99% of PS4/XO games look awful.

Nah. If anything I think they all fell well below my expectations in terms of power. We haven't really seen what Wii U can do yet with proper optimisation and probably never will from third parties which makes direct comparisons impossible (that CARS game might be different though).

In the end I don't think it will affect Nintendo nearly as much as the fact that they pretty much abandoned a lot of their user base with the Wii. Clearly the ports of third party games at the end of the current generation haven't sold as well on the Wii U which leads me to believe that there is almost no audience for anything but Nintendo games on the Wii U.

It will take a lot of time and effort on Nintendo's part to bring their core audience back to the numbers it was once. I would say doing some deals ala Microsoft putting the Wii U logo alongside big third party launches, paying for advertising of third party games, and leading the way with first party games in genres such as FPS and TPS would go a long way.

In short: Power is not the real issue here. If third parties had good reason to port their games to Wii U and do it properly, they would.

lmao. people still try to believe this illusion? the wii was better served with nintendo games than GC and N64.
