The minor difference in heat generated and the power consumption don't really bother me but the 1 min 8 sec. boot time seems awfully long.

honestly though, how often are you going to cold boot?  i cold boot my vita like once every 6 or more months and only when something hangs.  there is some bug i've hit a few times with purchasing something on psn that hangs my vita so unless that happens it is always in standby.

For me it's every time I turn on a console. Multiswitch ftw

cerney is a genius

xbox1 is not only more costly to buy but also more costly to run, but later models im sure will have improved temps

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Well Sony is a hardware company and Microsoft a software company. Still funny cause I'm pretty sure I've seen a few people "worrying" that the PS4 with its design would easily overheat and now the X1 actually runs hotter

Define software company. Because Microsoft has made multiple pieces of hardware, including all of the Xbox iterations, all of the Zune iterations, all of the Surface iterations, lots of add-ons such as mouses, keyboards, etc. Now that Microsoft owns the phone division of Nokia, you could argue that Nokia phones are in their lineup as well.

I think they have proven quite well through past releases that they are more than capable of releasing hardware alongside software.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

You are not telling the truth in this forum.

You have to inform the news as it is, not distort them to your like.

Here are the links to both, PS4 and XBOX ONE Hardware Tests, carried out by Digital Foundry:

PS4 :  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-hardware-test-playstation-4?utm_source=eurogamer&utm_medium=header-promo&utm_campaign=Hardware+Test%3A+PlayStation+4

XBOX ONE :  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-xbox-one-hardware-test

And the CLEAR final conclusion, as anyone can see from the results:

* XBOX ONE does consumes less power than PS4 when Idle, playing Blu-ray movies and Gaming;

* PS4 runs colder than XBOX ONE when Gaming but hotter than XBOX ONE when Idle and playing Blu-ray movies;

* XBOX ONE makes less noise than PS4 when close to the console.

Perfect, thanks!  That's all I need to know!  :)

the power consumption in standby mode worries me more and to be honest,.. it's not a worry about the system itself but rather the tree-hugger part of me that thinks an aweful lot of power is going to be wasted by these next gen consoles.   won't stop me from doing it but i'll feel bad from time to time.  :(

I'm confused now, when I shutdown my PS3 and later hit the power switch is that considered a cold boot? Or do I have to unplug it for it to be a cold boot? Or do the next gen HD twins have a different way of powering down?

let's back up to a windows PC.  when you turn it off there is a "shutdown" and a "sleep" option.  shutdown would require a "cold boot" to turn back on which apperently takes 1min 8 secs.  sleep would basically be what the console makers are calling "standby" which is up and running again after only 18 secs.

ps3 and 360 do not have a standby mode, only cold boot.  ..but vita does have standby.   a cold boot of vita is maybe 30 seconds and to bring it out of standby is practically instantanous.  in standby mode vita takes almost no power (i've left it there for days/weeks without draining the battery).

ps4 and xbone now also support this standby mode which is new to consoles but to be honest kind of a standard feature for modern electronics.  still, it will be awesome,. i promise you.  it's part of why i love my vita soo much because i can pause and restart a game on vita at the drop of a hat which is a great feature for when my train arrives at my stop for instance.

basically imagine your in the middle of a level on whatever game when your wife/gf/whatever demands you come clean the dishes this instant and then you get distracted by kids and go to bed or whatever your routine is.  the next day when you come back you'll be a mere 18 seconds picking up where you left off exactly where you left off. not some check point near your most recent save,.. exactly whre you were.   if you were jumping when you paused you'll be finishing your jump when you come back.  it is fucking awesome.

Sounds like booting a Windows PC.

My Win8 PC boots in 25 seconds. I'm sorry but an over 1 min boot time is awful in this day and age.

And funny that it runs hotter when gaming despite the massive vent-in-a-box case. That case was used as evidence they'd designed it to run cooler, when in fact it was evidence of them running hotter in the first place. Cause and effect.

Not fussed about the power consumption though.

I really don't get how people think lower temperature on the outer of the case means a better cooling per definition.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

It all depends where they are reading the heat from. It might be that the Xbox One dissipates heat better than the PS4. More heat could be trapped inside of the PS4 or chips even.. The purpose of heat sinks are to absorb heat and dispiate it. A poor heatsink might not be able to absorb as much heat and remain relatively cooler and won't release as much heat. Leaving the actual chips hotter. They should shoot a laser thermometer at the chips to see how hot the chips actually get.

They started as a software company and still make porbably over 75% of their revenue in software, they are a software company at heart. And I've not said that they haven't released hardware before, but Sony has been releasing electronics since the 50s, they have some serious know-how in engineering of consumer electronics (something they often don't have in management, unfortunately), and that is shown in this case.
