Nintendo will never star a money-hate war its not good for the industry, and yep MS and SONY are Ubi's and EA's bitc*** Cuz Nintendo can, and live without third-parties, but could MS or SONY live without then? I dont think so.

Yeah, because the NES in Europe and N64 in Japan did ever so well without lucrative 3rd party support to fall back on.

Oh wait......

Nintendo would not be as bi without 3ed party's but they would not be ruined like sony and MS
I agree with Tayllor on MS and Sony dead without 3rd party support.

You're not exactly refuting my point.

They would not have been dead without 3rd party support as would sony and ms

LOL, get out of here man, the N64 got crushed in Japan, even the Sega Saturn outsold it there, despite the Famicom and Super Famicom having a colossal grasp on the Japanese market beforehand.

Gee, I wonder why....

it's a rocket equation, that is why not anybody can compute that.

I think in the long run Nintendo will eventually release the fabled console/handheld hybrid. They will supplant their "two tier" business by expanding into animated films, something Yamauchi proposed himself and perhaps getting more into the toy business.

I wouldn't say irrelevant.

In fact, we need it. Why in hell would i need a third black box that have around the same core power and functions that the other two. I can already choose between PS4 and X1. In fact it is more likely that wouldn't work out for them. Sony will always have the best hardware, MS the best software, and both of them have preference of the thirds. And i am not bringing the master race to this scenario.

What i want from nintendo is something different. I want/need them to try crazy things and to be there whenever i think the developers are f*** everyone else. As long they can be proftable, make great games and try new things (even if they don't get it right always), they will be relevant, at least for me.

I know Nintendo hardcore fans don't want to here this, but I think the Wii U is in a serious need of another price cut, and fast. Yes, I know the holidays season and SMW3D are gonna boost some sales, but in January Nintendo might find itself back in reality and go back to the "We're sure that SSB and MK 8 are gonna boost some sales" situation.

Now, I know that Nintendo is probably going to lose money on every console if they do this, BUT I think in the long term they're going to lose even more, if they don't do it. 3rd party developers might run away from them and most importantly, INVESTORS might run away from them if this situation continues.

So, to wrap things up, I think that if they absolutely cannot do a price cut, at the very least they should add more value to their console by throwing in more games into their bundles. But I think they need to do something, and fast.

It needs to be $199.99 right now, despite what apologists will say.

It can maybe may some hay as a "secondary console you pick up for Mario Kart" and "cheap console for kids" type thing, but it's still to expensive for that right now.

Well, I'm not sure they have to go that low to turns things around. I mean, I think $249.99 with bundles should be enough to keep sales on the 100K per week ratio, which is not that bad. But then again, we don't know what are Nintendo's goals for the console; but I think if they want to get anywhere near the 50 millions units LT, then they need to take drastic measures asap.

Irrelevant is taking it a step too far. The Wii U will still be somewhat relevant, but its not going to be competing.

Expect a pretty major change for the next Nintendo console though, because the performance of Wii U simply wont be acceptable for Nintendo following on from the huge success that was Wii.

This .

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I do think the console race is basically going to become a 1-2 horse race between Sony and MS.

To be fair to Nintendo, I think they are simply cracking under the pressure put on their shoulders. No other game company is basically responsible for selling *two* distinct platforms every month.

They basically have to do all the hard lifting on the 3DS and Wii U themselves, sure the 3DS gets some OK support in Japan with Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest, but even in Japan a lot of companies seem to be exploring cell phone/tablet gaming rather than supporting the 3DS heavily.

In USA/Europe, Nintendo pretty sells both the 3DS and Wii U on their backs entirely.

It's a large strain ... Nintendo can still move hardware, however we may be reaching the point where Nintendo has to acknowledge that supporting two platforms like this is simply impossible for them to do successfully on two fronts.

Even in the GBA/GCN days it wasn't really like this because the GBA didn't really require as much new software. They didn't make a new Mario for the GBA, and farmed out the new 2D Zeldas out house, etc. etc. etc. But nowadays the 3DS needs main line entries into major franchises as much as the console side does and it can produce 2nd gen quality 3D visuals on top of Nintendo also having to deal with HD development on consoles ... it's too much to ask from one company I think.a

Sony/MS basically just have to support the 3rd party content on their systems. We've seen that Sony can't carry a platform on their own (Vita).

It isnt that microsoft and sony have third party support, more that third parties have customers support on microsoft and sony consoles.

Nintendo fans are inherantly stubborn when it comes to non-nintendo games and are perfectly willing to sit by and watch the good ship wiiu sink.

The highest rated launch games for wiiu were all third party, it had a great chance to repair charred bridges and get third party on board to make a more broadly appealing lineup, but the customers just arent there, and so third parties got up and left.
