I wouldn't say irrelevant.
In fact, we need it. Why in hell would i need a third black box that have around the same core power and functions that the other two. I can already choose between PS4 and X1. In fact it is more likely that wouldn't work out for them. Sony will always have the best hardware, MS the best software, and both of them have preference of the thirds. And i am not bringing the master race to this scenario.
What i want from nintendo is something different. I want/need them to try crazy things and to be there whenever i think the developers are f*** everyone else. As long they can be proftable, make great games and try new things (even if they don't get it right always), they will be relevant, at least for me.
