I just got through the cutscene. So far so good. If anyone gets the Blue Pulse try doing what I did.

From what I gather "blue pulsing" often means the PS4 is establishing the HDMI connection. If that just happens during gameplay there might be a loose contact there, so I think you should have a close look at the HDMI port/cable to see if there are any irregularities, as a few PS4s reportedly have been shipped with minor defects at the HDMI port, which can lead to the connection failing.

I believe blue pulsing occurs during boot process, the machine is actually working but obviously still attempting to boot, red blinking is hardware failure, the question is more what part of the boot procedure is failing, display init, hdmi handshake, filesystem access on hdd, etc

My brother was getting close to buying one...

Did you buy from Amazon or gamestop? Word of mouth is that its both of those locations that the faulty PS4s are coming from. I'm starting to think that the PS4 was made with cheap materials or something. Bang it around enough and something will come loose. In short, be careful with the system.

So it's completely harmless to bang around my other systems constantly? Brb, taking my 60GB PS3 to the grand canyon with me....

Just because a console comes from amazon does not make it a certainty that it will be damaged, the packing of the consoles from what i have seen has varied wildly from a few air bags to a box that would barely close from padding, all from amazon.

I'm just saying it's besides the point. Although I will say the PS2 was probably prone to that, standing the system vertically given it's relative lack of weight coupled with the lack of a breakaway component on the PS2/PS1 controller ports was an accident waiting to happen.

Red blinking is a preventative shut down due to excessive heat. No damage or problem. Don't think people have encountered a color for hardware failure.

I told you, you could solve it. The PS4 has a wonderful Safe Mode built in. People just don't know how it works. hi11zone demonstrated that for us!

Good to hear Ben :)

Edit - Ok so I unplugged my HDMI and power cord and let it sit for like 20 minutes. It's now completely booted back into KZ. omg I hope this thing runs

Glad to know it's back. You should check the HDMI port, maybe one of the pins is bent like Kotaku's PS4, I'll leave you two links below that explain their situation.

Red blinking also indicates hardware fault, check the anlysis on lvlzero.com where they delibrately induce a hardware failure by shorting out some of the signal lines on hdmi.

I never claimed that other consoles weren't prone to being damaged, I claimed that PS4 may have something like a poorly installed HDMI port which is jossled loose easily or maybe the fan pops out of place or something like that.  It could be a time bomb waiting to happen on the other systems...  Maybe the people who got it from amazon were actually the lucky ones as they discovered the defect early because of how poorly the consoles were treated.
