From what I gather "blue pulsing" often means the PS4 is establishing the HDMI connection. If that just happens during gameplay there might be a loose contact there, so I think you should have a close look at the HDMI port/cable to see if there are any irregularities, as a few PS4s reportedly have been shipped with minor defects at the HDMI port, which can lead to the connection failing.

I believe blue pulsing occurs during boot process, the machine is actually working but obviously still attempting to boot, red blinking is hardware failure, the question is more what part of the boot procedure is failing, display init, hdmi handshake, filesystem access on hdd, etc

Red blinking is a preventative shut down due to excessive heat. No damage or problem. Don't think people have encountered a color for hardware failure.
