Forums - Sales - Wii U 2012/13 USA: 900k/600k VS Ps4 first day

Just stating pure facts here. Looking at the USA sales for the Wii u, it sold around 900k in 2012 (launch year) and another 600k this year (so far) bring an estimated total of 1.5 million.

Sony just announced that the Ps4 sold over 1 million units in the first 24 hours in the USA.

My question: will the Ps4 overtake the Wii U in USA sales? If so, how do you think it'll take?

***keep in mind the PS3 was the weakest console last gen in the USA while the Wii was the strongest

1m in NA, not USA.

PS4 overtaking WiiU this year depends on availability, really.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

I don't think there will be enough >PS3< (EDIT: PS4) stock to overtake the Wii U. Its not like the Wii U is not selling too.

Edit: I hate typing on iPads, I keep hitting the f@cking wrong keys.

It only needs 500k to pass.

But you have to consider the 40% failure rate. Remember those don't count ;)

Depends on how much stock Sony allocates to Europe, in any case, the Wii U looks like its toast in any such comparison.

Sony just made no nonsense next-gen game console at sold at it an affordable price (unlike the PS3). Who knew really it was just that simple, instead of having to have the side show of novelty controllers.

This is what I tell people it's not about putting all your eggs in one basket or praying for one singular "killer app" that will sell the system.

It's about getting the little details right ... Sony's launch lineup isn't even that great, but they nailed it with the hardware and have a breadth of content aimed at people who care about games rather than risking an entire product on unreliable, flakey consumers IMO (casuals).

It really depends on supply. Sony estimated 5 million until march, so I don't think they have enough supply to outsell Wii U right out of the gates. But it is really only a matter of time. PS4 outselling Wii U is a given.

Will be interesting to see Xbox One numbers, but I don't think the PS4 has any serious competition right now. And that is well deserved, Sony did everything right, you just can't argue with that. Know your customer. Please your customer.

It's important though that they keep up the good work and don't get arrogant again. We all know what Sony can become if they are too successful. And I think nobody wants that to happen again.

Depends on the percentage of that million that has been returned, preorders that have not been picked up or inoperable or destroyed out in the parking lot (yes, people bought brand new consoles and smashed them in front of the store believe it or not, quite a few!) Which seems to be in the thousands. Unfortunately, because of the embarrassment, Sony has yet, and probably will not release any actual, factual statistics. That 0.4% is an unsourced, no-method mentioned, piece of data that was released BEFORE the console actually even came out. In fact, that 0.4% is so invalid, that it was changed from a previously LOWER, unsourced, no-method mentioned piece of data.

A fresh conspiracy appears! It's been a while since we had one of those! Please keep everyone posted as your investigation uncovers more facts and details!

It will come extremely close. Personally I think the Wii U will remain ever so slightly ahead thanks to nintendo holiday power and the release of Mario 3D World, but PS4 will lunch it some time in the new year, by the release of Infamous in march at the very latest. As for the PS4 failure rate, It seems to be rather overstated, a combination of paranoia after RROD, increased use of social media since then and certain people looking desperately for a chink in Sony's armour. I can't deny there have of course been DOA systems and that must suck massively for new owners but so long as it doesn't become more common in the next month and Sony deal promptly and satisfactorily with those cases, I don't foresee much of an impact on sales
