Recently there has been allot of talk and even action on making catelonia an independant nation.

I for one am a strong proponent of people deciding if they want to remain a part of a larger nation or not.

Spain itself has shown to be a poor leader of the people with its GDP overtaken by the much smaller population of Australia.

Catalonia has shown itself a modern economy weighed down by the burden of its large government and could be all the better after independance.

I must also admit that I find smaller nations are often more dynamic and manageable then bigger nations. Plus its easier to identify which parts of spain are performing better if thet were to be broken up.

Also if the will of the people was not enough they do have a language and unique culture.

What do you think?

If they want to be independent then why not? It's whether they can be successful if separate from Spain? I know little on the Spanish economy itself apart from the fact that there are half finished buildings everywhere.

Does Catalonia have it's industries it could rely on if it became independent?

Absolutely. It is quite a large region that has had a great level of autonomy in the past and has a far better past when it comes to respecting the rights of its citizens than the Spanish government's absurd land grab laws.

The plight of the Catalonians shall not be ignored.

The rotting leviathan of Spain shall not drag Catalonia down to the depths as the chains of oppression are cast off.

From what I know of Catalonia is will do alright but would Spain as a whole allow it to be independent?

But hey, if anything it might make the Spainish football team worse, so I'm all for it.

Can't wait for the media obsession next September with the Scottish Independence.

Hmm, pie.

That's interesting. I guess they are waiting to see what Scotland does first before trying though

I'm all up for it.

Like it has been said here in the thread, it's the people that should decide the fate of their own state/region. If they feel that they would do better as an independent state, then they should be allowed to become so.

From what I know of Catalunya, they would fare exceptionally well as an independent state, as they're probably the most self-sufficient region of the entire Iberian peninsula. On the other hand, Spain's economy would suffer a major blow, but that'll be their own fault.
