I if I had a 3DS, I definitely would get this I'm also hoping they port Dragon Quest 7 to the west soon.

It's much more like Four Heroes of Light + Final Fantasy V (at least on it's job system), than FFIV on DS. On Hard difficulty it's very grindy, since the difficulty jump from dungeon to dungeon (might not be the same on the regular game) is rather huge, so you'll spend a bit grinding character and job levels. |
Thanks, haven't played FFV or 4HoL, might wait and see how the reviews are then. Also, whats the tone of the story like if you get what I mean, because FFIV has this really relaxing fairy tale atmosphere but still manages to make you care about the characters at poignant moments. That's one of my favourite things about it

Can't tell you much about the story, since the demo doesn't dwelve on it at all. From the videos it's looks to be your old "Save the Crystal + World" theme that Golden era FFs used to revolve around, so that's another good nod, at least on my book.
If you haven't played 4HoL I really recommend it, it was one of my favourite rpgs on the DS. It had a simple story, but Brandt and Yunita were some pretty great characters and it's artstyle is pretty similar to the one used on Bravely Default (it was made to be it's spiritual successor after all).

Ok, thanks, I guess I'll wait and see with BD, but I haven't heard anything too off-putting about it. As for 4HoL I've been intiqued by it for a while but haven't bought it, may have to pick it up at some point
Dear Goddess, the HP jump between bosses is ridiculous. 1500 for Melusine, 4400 for Adamant Turtle and now 8900 for Minotaur. Don't know if these HP values are only for Hard, but this is almost impossible (at least in my current level).
I should have built the Ether upgrade on the town >_>.

I'm not much into JRPG's, but what I've seen has got me pretty interested. I'll have to try out the demo.

Yes, I am talking about Buff Up (that's really its name). It's passive, so it just takes some time until it stacks to max level and it stays there as long as the party member doesn't die. It also raises four stats at once, so there is a significant benefit. Just takes ten turns until it has reached full force, that's its only drawback. I deactivated random battles in the forest, because a bit of grinding elsewhere didn't really improve matters. And that was on normal difficulty. The equipment in the demo is capped and the job levels are capped too. You really hit a wall and the only thing left is to raise your normal level (which is capped too, by the way), but that does hardly anything. So yeah, I didn't bother with random encounters in the forest and the ruins, because it just wasn't fun. Took care of the quests there and called it a day. I am not even sure what kind of random enemies appear in the ruins! As for Freelancer's Late Bloomer ability, that's only going to be useful once you've put a lot of time into the game. Looks like there are 25 jobs in the full game, so that's a 25% bonus for all stats once you've mastered all jobs. In the demo it's not worth all that much, because your base stats are low to begin with and you can't get more than a 9% bonus. I've mastered all jobs and maxed my regular level to 20, but I have yet to find the seventh play bonus. Let me know if you find it. |
From what I've been reading over at gamefaqs, the last completion bonus is probably tied with the town completion, so that might take a while. Buff up is rather nice, have it for Agnes and she really wreacks havoc as a B.Mage once it gets going.
Probably gonna have to make a Tiz Knight with the Performer's Catch Me and both Agnes and Ringabel as B.Mages with Buff Up and constantly Default until their buffs are maxed. That's the only way i'll probably put a serious dent to Minotaur's HP.
I don't even want to think how much HP the next boss has.

So no streetpass means no final play bonus. I am not going to let the game run for over ten hours to get everything built. Thankfully the full game is supposed to allow online friends to aid with that town's completion. A good reason to make a Bravely Default thread for just that purpose. Bosses have 50% higher HP (same probably goes for all other stats) on hard than on normal. You can't save up more than 3BP and you can't go lower than -4BP. So in theory that would be seven turns at once at most, but I haven't tested it. |
50% HP, that would explain a lot. Still, almost had him, until he decided to use his "Fuck you" move, Double Damaging four times in a row and OHKO everyone for over 500. Gonna have to prepare that strategy better.
Town completion is supposed to continue even if you close your 3DS (as long as you don't turn off your game). Still, if the full game does support Friends, then it's gonna be much better indeed.
And yeah, you can't go over 3 BP and - 4 BP, but you can only Brave four times in the same turn, which kinda sucks. If you could go from 3 BP to - 4 BP, even if you had to sacrifice 7 turns, would be sweet (I could probably One Shot the minotaur that way, with 2 fully Buffed Up B. Mages).

By the way, there's an NPC that gives you an extra person for the town. During the day, talk 2-3 times to the guy down the stairs left of the Magic shop and he'll "put a good word" about the town reconstruction efforts and you'll have an additional guy.
There seems also to be a third unlockable person, once you finish the fourth boss.
