Forums - Nintendo - Pach Attacks! Best WiiU can hope for is 20M lifetime.

20m is quite an optimistic forecast given the situation

I think 2014 is the decider for the Wii U. If MK8, Smash Bros, X Donkey Kong, Yarn Yoshi, Bayonetta and other first party titles don't make a difference then it's game over for sure. It has to be said that the first 3 franchises have grown a lot since the GC era so I'll be surprised if it doesn't influence the Wii U a lot. 2013 is a year to forget though, they really cocked it up with only SM3D World as a big release. The Wii series is dead :/

Well.. we all know that the WiiU situation is bad, but I really don´t think it´s just a Nintendo problem. Vita got some boost but it´s not something to be proud of yet.

PS4 and XboxOne, despite some great pre-orders numbers, will surely sell a lot on launch due to its fanbase, but I don´t see them selling well next year, I think both consoles will face problems similar to the ones WiiU and Vita faced and the last generation will continue to sell for at least one year.

Apart from die-hard fans, people are not willing to spend big money on consoles anymore. This market will continue to face difficulties in bringing new consumers in 2014

I quite agree, the internet hypes up stuff more than usual. That said the PS4 is definitely gonna be huge this holiday season and it will have some momentum but not as much as a lot of people think it will. Still early days but I think the only way the PS4 doesn't win this gen is if Sony cock it up cause it's set to regain a lot of ground in NA and UK along with its dominance in EU.

funny as usual

Switch!!!

I still think that is much higher than it will actually reach.

They grew a lot because of the Wii series. If it's "dead" as you say, then a lot of that audience is gone.

They came for Wii Sports/Fit, getting Mario/Smash/Mario Kart was like ordering desert after the main course at a restaurant famous for its deserts.

But if the main course is gone, people aren't going to come just for desert. That's sorta the problem Nintendo has if the Wii ____ series can't bring back casuals en masse.

Things like Bayonetta and Yarn Yoshi realistically aren't moving mass amounts of hardware either lets be honest. They're just next year's sales equivalents to Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 give or take.

Mario KArt was no desert. It's grown, I'm not saying it will sell 20 million but it does have a lot of fans and this next iteration looks brilliant. It will do more than 7 million (Double Dash numbers) and push more consoles. You have a good point on the other games though I admit, but surely there are some people who go back to a restaurant for the desert no? :P 30 million + copies of Mario KArt Wii is nothing to sniff at!

How about you take on  my bet here it is:

Here's a nice bet for people who believe it won't reach 20 million, for every Nintendo console (excluding handhelds and virtual boy) the WiiU outsells i get 3 month of victory statement in loser's sig but if it doesn't beat anything i get sig controlled for a year with whatever line you want me to write in my sig
Anyone?

make sure to tell me if you're interested

bet with ash3336 he wins if Super Mario 3D World sells less than Mario Sunshine during the first three years, I win if 3D World outsells Sunshine's first 3 years. Loser get sig controlled for 3 months (punishment might change)

Do you doubt the WiiU? Do you believe that it won't match the GC?

Then come and accept this bet

I do think Wii U is 'toast'. 20m is what it can hope for says Pachter. #lgc13

"I think the Wii U is toast - it's a DS that's split into two" - Strong words for Nintendo from Pachter #lgc13

MCV ‏@MCVonline

He says Nintendo fans need to stop criticising him for his Wii U comments and just buy a Wii U. Because they haven't. #lgc13

OUCH! Harsh words from the Pach Man. What do you all think?

OK,  points 1 and 2 are the usual trolling that we can must anyway forgive, coming from Teh Analyst God, but point 3, actually, well, it's up to Ninty fans to prove him wrong (eventually disproving point 1 too in the process).

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

Less mainstreamers = better community = better community taste = better games.

The more "cool kids" play something the more dumbed down and streamlined it gets.

Nintendo lost some of its polish by trying to please everyone (the real gamers and the wannabes) so lets hope their level of polish increases again.
