FYI it's 11pm on a Sunday, so people aren't exactly quick to respond to work email. I wanted to check in before I shut-down for the evening. This is what I believe is going on:We still have two more weeks before launch - the console is in a pre-release state. We are doing regular updates - I personally took one a few minutes before he posted. His build is now old. This is why we were saying we didn't want people on early - it's not done yet. This behavior is only because we are in pre-release. When we launch, console will work exactly as you expect today on 360. For sure this has nothing to do with requiring a connection. There is no "DRM removal" in the Day One update because none of the consoles were ever built with that stuff in it. This also has nothing to do with COD. The Day One update just brings the SW up to date with the latest versions vs. what's on the box. But there is no 24 check in, that's for sure.ccording to albert

So nothing to worry about

What the hell? The doesn't make any sense?

Or is he just lying/damage control? He is saying there never was any DRM on the system!!

Why would there be drm on it when it was scrapped awhile ago.

Their intention of implenting it was scrapped. They were already too far with the development of the console at that point. Why is the console not usable without the day 1 update then? They said, back when the DRM was reversed, that they would disable it with an update. So the update is supposed to remove those earlier ''restrictions''

The latter means, the restrictions are already on the OS that's delieverd with the system. The patch simply disables it and adds some other stuff.

Then why was he able to play CoD before the ban and not now?

Because it was confirmed by Major Nelson that a patch was needed to remove the DRM. And to quote him from E3, "It's built in the system, you can't just flip a switch". The concensus on GAF is that the console ban has nothing to do with him not being able to play the game offline, considering that there's no way Microsoft could control his system when he's offline. They are saying that the 500mb patch he downloaded was not the DRM removing patch, so he has to deal with the 24 hour check in tht was built into the system. This falls in line with CBOAT's statement that the DRM removing patch might not be finished in time.

"We didnt want people on because it wasnt ready.... so we will ban the guy so he can see what wasnt ready and everyone coyld find out"

MS trying to blame the consumer for their fuck up yet again. Its simple, if they didnt ban the console then this wouldnt have happened. However, ms is trying to make itseem like it happened because its his fault

That would be a PR nightmare for the company if people got the console 2 weeks from now and they couldn't play offline after the first 24 hours pass. Can you imagine what kind of negative attention to the console something like this could bring?

Cuz its not shipping with a fully fuctinal os.  The guy that said the patch was to remove tge drm was corrected they always planned a day one patch.

The os that they have only have a limited life span And since the guy is banned until closer to release hr cant get the new patch for tge new os

how doesnt it make sense? no retail consoles ever had the old builds of the OS where they had DRM built in it. they put an old build of the OS in the system and started production with that old build, but it didnt have DRM in it.

Im already expecting a rocky launch for MS from the people who arent aware of the required day 1 patch. Im about to lose my internet and dont know for how long (till i find another place... could be a couple months)

This a quote from Major Nelson, if he doesn't know, who does?

In response to numerous questions about Microsoft’s DRM policies, the fan backlash, and how Microsoft would respond, Major Nelson stood his ground.

"We can’t just flip a switch to turn off DRM. The console was built around it"

yes it was. but they started production after the 180. the OS thats was put in retail units does not have DRM in it as it was removed before.
