Both have announced shipments not the number of units sold to customers.

X360 has sold 80 million to retailers which means they have shipped 80 million 360's, not sold to customers. Sony confirmed that they had actually sold 80 million PS3's to customers so PS3 is in the lead.

Well, I think you really need to read the official press release which indicates the number is sold-in number.

so its about one million overtracked if the date is november 2nd...

"Xbox 360 has outsold PS3 worldwide"

.... and it only took them an extra year to do it.

Regardless of sold or shipped how is 80 million in 8 years better than 80 million in 7 years? LOL

X360 - 78.8M

...but the PS3 got to 80mil in one year less. So there's that.

When ANY company states they "Sold XX QTY" it means to retailers.

At this time they are likely neck-in-neck world-wide with PS3 more than likely ahead. VGC numbers for real sold to consumers is probably pretty spot on.

At this point I'm going to close this thread. VGChartz states that PS3 has sold more to consumers while both MS and Sony have said that they've shipped 80 million consoles to retailers.

There's really no point in discussing this topic further, as attitudes have slowly gotten more and more toxic as this thread progressed.
