That's just it. 90%+ of all mobile and tablet games are things that allow you to "kill a bit of time". They are not games meant to be sat and played seriously for any real length.

Dedicated portable gaming consoles are a whole different beast, because they have actual full-blown video games that are meant to be sat and played for major periods of time.

But thats today, right now.  Don't shoot for where the duck is, shoot for where its going to be.

That isn't going to change much. People don't sit and play cell phone games for hours on end. They play them in transit, or when they're having to wait several minutes. Portable consoles and home consoles are more for actual gamers, who want to engage in long-term gaming with actual substance. That is not going ot change either.

Good, he's testing the waters. I hope this is building up to Virtual Console on smartphones.

It's a good thing for Nintendo to consider how to use the smart devices, but I don't read this as if they'll be putting their games on them. Nintendo games really needs better controls than what a smartphone can provide.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

The problem is most people only need to "kill a bit of time" with gaming devices. How many people realistically get to sit down outside of the house and play games for hours on end?

Portable gaming by its nature was largely predicated around the concept of being devices that could kill some time here and there.

It does seem to me though that even Nintendo is conceeding themselves that smartphones have basically taken away segments of the market.

Hopefully he doesnt creat games for nonnintendo devices. He said he will keep true to Yamauchis traditions.

Never going to happen. Never should happen.

“Smart devices have already played a central role in creating buzz among consumers above a certain age with respect to, for example, “Animal Crossing: New Leaf,” “Monster Hunter 4” or “Pokémon X/Pokémon Y.” Twitter timelines filled with tweets about Monster Hunter and Pokémon can certainly help create awareness for the products, and we also know that many watch Nintendo Direct on their smart devices. Rather than simply viewing smart devices as competitors, we should consider ways in which we can use them for our business.”

Priceless

Nintendo Direct should be an app for smartphones, 3DS and Wii U.

weird...was under the impression that iwata didn't even know smartphones existed.

He used to show off his iPhone all the time until it started killing his business.
