Forums - Sony - UPDATED - 7th Gen - 'Which System Won The Console War' - Poll Added

Who really won the the 7th Gen Console War?

Nintendo 138 46.46%

Xbox 360 30 10.10%

PS3 92 30.98%

Make Love Not War 17 5.72%

See Poll 17 5.72%

Total:294

Considering the Wii outsold the PS3 year in and year out when it mattered, and considering that if you took the Top 10 most successful games of last gen, the list would be stacked with many Wii titles (7 out of 10 actually), yeah, I'm gonna say this thread topic is false. PS3 did much better than many thought it would, and deserves kudos for that after a very slow start and some calling it a "dead" system in it's first year (sound familiar?).

But there really isn't much real argument to be had. Wii won the generation in flying colors.

No.
Wii won the 7th generation.

Hahaha oh lordy.. Sony fan logic. I believe it goes something like this:

"Sony ALWAYS wins, even when they lose."

"Nintendo is ALWAYS doomed, even when they have a sales phenomenon on their hands that churns out huge profits."

So basically, PS3 wins, even though it lost from both a sales AND a profit standpoint.

Even on the 10% chance PS3 eventually inches past the Wii sales numbers worldwide, they needed multiple price drops, and 2 designs to pull it off, and they have also lost millions in the process for Sony, while the Wii has made a fortune for Nintendo as it has been pure profit. So Nintendo will still have "won" where it counts.

It has easily won the gen games wise - at least for me... but it'll be a while until it surpasses the Wii in sales numbers... even though I believe that it will.

Well, being a Playstation fan, I can understand that.

But while I own a PS3 myself, there is really something to be said for: Metroid Prime 3/Trilogy, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, No More Heroes, Zack & Wiki, fantastic Okami port, RE4: Wii Edition, Muramasa, NSMB Wii, Red Steel 2, Monster Hunter 3, Sin & Punishment 2, Kirby (both Epic Yarn and Return to Dreamland), DKCR, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower. Among many others.

For all the jokes made about "Wii has no games", it actually wound up with quite a healthy library.

The fact that the author of this article actually likes the new PS3 "super-slim" hardware automatically discredits anything else stated therein.

Title is wrong, "might win" rather than "won"

Lets wait until it actually outsells the wii before we declare it's victory. It has a good pace but it has a long way to go.

lets see roughly 80 mil in 7 years with about 20 mil to go for a tie. Selling 25% of your total units moved in 7 years doesn't just happen.

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

I think it's fair to say that the PS3 will end up winning this generation. The Latin American and Eastern Europe markets kept alive the PS2 until Sony discontinued it this year, so I truly believe that the PS3 will continue to sell until, at least, 2017.

Make your bets, my money is on Sony.

if we consider the end of this generation now, wii won.
if u consider the 7th gen being 2005 to 2017, ps3 will probably win.
even, ps3 spend 11 year (almost 2 generations) to reach the sales of 6~7 year of wii...

I'm a big PS3 person, but the Wii won. The Wii has SEVEN exclusive games that sold more than 20 million.

So? I'm fairly sure The Last of Us is widely considered to be a better game that Wii Play.

Comment has nothing to do with wat he said. He's talking sales not ratings which SMG+SMG2 won this gen

No, that would be GTAIV.

Well than Highest exclusive of last generation! (tied for 2nd place overall).

Much as I loved The Last of Us, there are a large portion of people who think Super Mario Galaxy is the best game of this generation, but still this is a subjective argument.  Objectively, Super Mario Galaxy has sold more than 20 million copies, so that trumps TLOU.

They lost nearly half their marketshare from gen 6 to gen 7. That is winning?
