I tried the demo too and eventually i downloaded it as part of the MK 8 promotion - W101 was too big for me!
Maybe the Mario Galaxy level design isn`t really the best for Sonic`s speed.
There`s a good amount of 2D levels which were pretty good; you`ll see some very creative levels in there.

I guess i just prefer the old Sonic games and the Sonic Adventure type of gameplay.

For Sonic games i like the gameplay to be more free, unless it is 2D. No barriers to slow me down, or as little as possible. I just feel like the Wii U version of Lost Worlds and the 3DS version had too many barriers or things gettting in my way.

I just remembered! I got to get the new Wii U demo.

I don`t remember a lot of obstacles, but i`ll you this: the levels were surprisingly long.

It's because things like that, that people have started to not trust their scores or at least put them on hold until western reviews appear and we can compare.
