Game Informer's Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze review

Donkey Kong Country TF - 9.25
Bravely Default - 8
Dr. Luigi - 8

DKC:TF

- Seems like generic worlds, ice, beach, jungle but "the variety is amazing"
- Ride minecarts through saw mills, dash through a forest with a raging fire, etc.
- Great difficulty balance, bonus stages are a bit ridiculous in difficulty though that is expected.
- Water levels return, are very fun, better to control with analog stick than d-pad. For some reason you have to access the menu to pick one or the other.
- Dixie and Cranky add new moves that work best to reach certain collectibles or specific platforming challenges. Rotating barrels allow you to select the best Kong for the job.
- "Local Co-op is as much a mixed bag as the first installment."
- 6 worlds instead of 8 in the last game. But each level is larger. Reviewer says it rather have a smaller collection of the best levels Retro can make than a more bloated game with less quality levels and that is exactly what this game does.

Wii U new of 04/02/2014:

  • Weekly charts of the 25th of january: The Wii U holds pretty well with 42k unitsd sold (only dropped 11%) and outsold the Vita and X360 (it's dying). It's best selling game was (again) SM3DW with 37k units, followed by the NSMBU/NSLU duo, and lower Wii Fit U. Milestone: Lego City Undercover is at 700k units sold.
  • Nintendo bought all of Yamauchi's stocks...
  • Were you expecting FAST Racin' Neo news? Too bad, you're only getting a new game AND news (soon)
  • That Sonic game coming the next year for PS4, Xbone, and Wii U... Just a roumor!
  • DKC: TF recives a 35/40 from Famitsu! And 9.25 from Game Informer!
  • Are you losing hype for MK8? I sure am. But not anymore, a new Analysis from Gamexplain came out!

I saw that bit about the new Shin'en game, which is awesome. I really wanna see more of Fast Racing Neo though, seems very F-Zero-like.

I'm actually kinda intrigued by DKCTF after looking at some gameplay videos. Maybe I'll finally give the series a go once I get a Wii U!

Erm, Tropical Freeze is only on Wii U mate. Surely you knew that!

The listed release date is the 13th of February, so a week on Thursday (most games in Japan release on Thursday).

I only say it's out now because I saw pics of someone with the game, and Japan is a day ahead so it'd be out now I think...
