If anyone sees both side by side, anyone will see the difference,

You really think non-hardcore gamers are going to compare them side by side?

Go to many of youtube's comparison videos on various games, and see the comments, generally made by your typical teen mainstream gamers, just for one common example.

Most of the audience for something like COD's not going to be looking up comparison videos online. Us devoted internet gamers are a minority.

Keep telling yourself that.....You dont need to look for differences, 1080P and 720p, is a major difference in image quality. A quick look anyone will see it period.

Say Johnny Casual goes to a mate's place, plays Ghosts on PS4 at 1080p, then decides to buy it for his Xbone. When he boots it up on his TV in 720p, he's not going to go, "OMG, this looks sooo much worse!"

He will see a difference yes...it is twice the detail. Stop exaggerating, he won;t say OMG it looks horrible, but the image will be degraded and it will be very noticeable...............A quick google search on 1080p and human eye sight will tell you this.

There's a difference between what the eye can percieve and what people process. We're constantly seeing an entire field of vision, but we can completely overlook something in our view if we're not concentrating on it. Casual gamers will not be looking for tiny details, or aliasing on polygon edges or thin geometry, it won't even occur to them to look for it.

What part of "You wont need to be looking for every detail or analysing everythig to notice" do yoo not understand. If you see an image at 1080P, then 720p, anyone will immediately see a lower iimage quality, it is very notiveable. Anyone saying otherwise is indenial or simply out of touch.

But non-hardcore gamers are not going to put the PS4 version and the Xbone version on TVs next to each other to compare, or anything like that.

Seasoned game analysts have played next gen games and still haven't been sure if they're looking at 720p, 900p, or 1080p, and casuals are even less observant about these things.

Likw who? As soon as they got a copy of said games they knew immediately....... they didnt need to knwo the exact resolutuon to know one looked a lot better then the other no? That says it all.

Again, 1080p, is vastly sharper, more dtailed picture anyone will notice, it is NOT some tiny effect you have to squinty and see...It is a major difference.

Unless you have a super-massive TV or sit with your nose up against it 1080p to 720p is not something a casual gamer is going to notice without the kind of side-by-side comparison that casuals don't do.

Some people need to understand that this is how gamers are, especially men.

Wanting to compete and thus be ''better'' is everything and is as natural as can be.

That and the title are both simple facts, no way around them.

Wrong again.........all a person needs is eye sight...This is a technical fact. My 8 year old notices the difference.

Double the number of pixels doesn't make that much of an actual visual difference in most cases though, as 720p is already pretty sharp to most people's eyes.(And TVs)

Diminishing returns.

While I agree with your point on diminishing returns, 720p vs 1080p is a fair difference.

Sorry but I don't believe that for a second, unless your 8 year old has his face a foot from a 50" screen and was asked by an adult if he noticed a difference after being shown a comparison or told what the answer was.
