Would really love to see a new Starfox game.

Where was GTA 3/VC/SA, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy x/x2/12, silent hill, onimusha, zone of the enders, devil may cry...the biggest game it had was RE4 and it got ported to PS2 lol. At the end of it's life cycle, it wasnt even getting some SPORTS titles for crying out loud. You know it's bad when that happens. And no, again, the reason people didn't like WW and Sunshine is because those games didn't innovate like the N64 titles. OOT and Mario 64 are considered to be two of the most ground breaking games of ALL time. Those two titles influenced an industry. Do you hear people saying that about Sunshine or Wind Waker? |
A lot of those games skipped the Xbox as well but people dont seem to say it had terrible third party support.
WW and Sunshine didnt innovate because they were sequals. Its funny how with this next gen people are clamoring for KIllzone, Halo 5 and Infamous second son, all gams that are likely to be good in their own way, but miles away from being innovative and medium defining.

If they're going to bother EVER making a GOOD and proper SF64 sequel, it had sure as shit better be on Wii U, in HD, with PLENTY of content, NO walking around outside of vehicles missions, no gimmicky bullshit, just straight up Star Fox shooter level goodness. I don't want to play a GC quality game on 3DS, if I'm going to get a new Star Fox, then dear lord please give it to me in the full blown glory that it deserves to be in. Same thing goes for Wave Race, F-Zero, etc.
I'd love love love this to be true, because I want a new Star Fox more than anything... but I just don't see enough here to believe this actually indicates an oncoming game. It looks like just a funny tweet.

I am 34, and apart of the NES gen, so I can give a more accurate depection of what Gamecube was. That console was considered to be a waste of money in much of the same way Wii-U is now. It didn't have a DVD player, it had almost no online to speak of, no third party support etc. All it could do was play games, and people wanted more than that. On the games side of it, people felt the titles were weak N64 clones. People felt WW was too easy, too repetitive (sailing) and thought it was pretty much a slap in the face. The same can be said for just about ALL of the Gamecube titles with the exception of SSBM,Metroid Prime, F-Zero and....maybe Pikmin. Though most considered it too "cute" and "kiddy" to care. Overall, it wasn't liked and it's games, rejected. I know now, it's looked highly upon but that's because, like I said, the kids have all grown up and have let nostalgia delude their views. |
I'm 31 and the Gamecube was my favorite system at the time of it's release, and you forgot some good games, such as the best version of Soul Calibur 2, all those different Resident Evil, and of course Rogue Squadron.
I was in college at the time, and the systems we played the most were Cube > Xbox (almost all Halo) > Dreamcast > PS2. I think it's largely because we were spending a lot of time in random dorms and those systems were much more "social" (four controller ports and all.) I also want to say that the Gamecube had one thing the Wii U doesn't, and that's strong support from annual sports titles, such as Fifa and Madden (and NCAA for most of it's life) Hell, they even got there own wrestling games. That's one of the biggest problems with the Wii U, it doesn't just lack good third party support.... it lacks basic third party support.

Please, please speak for yourself. This post has so many generalizations and stereotypes.
I have no problem that you feel this way about GCN, but don't project your own attitudes onto the general public. The GCN was loved by millions, many of its games are ranked among the best ever made, and Wind Waker was not the pariah you describe.
And please drop the nostalgia angle. If you disagree with someone, just explain yourself. Don't suggest that a generation of fans are incapable of judging a console rationally and objectively. It's insulting.
