Don't forget to add Tax to that as well.
New consoles are always way more expensive than you think.

It's always funny when people become so upset that they don't even try to defend their manufacturer anymore; instead they attempt to persuade everyone to shit on the other companies. And it's infinitely more hilarious when they say "this situation is the same thing that happened with my favorite console", even though the two situations are actually world's apart.

PS4 doesnt exactly install games, it caches them, meaning that you can use only 50GB (theoratically) of data for every game you'll ever play

how long is the process of removing a game's "install" and placing another?

You put disc in the console and its straight to the menu, the game does everything in the background
I think there is an issue in that home consoles from Sony and MS have effectively become cheap living room PC's, inefficient as game consoles and installing to play games is part of that. I blame MS for that, since it was a major goal of their's from the initial conceptualization of the XBox line. But I digress. I don't think most fanboy gamers are being naive about the cost of an XBOne or PS4 when it comes to installs. I don't think it's actually a big deal, most gamers only buy 10 games in their console's life. My personal pet peeve is that people tend to completely ignore the cost of online gaming - especially when talking about the PS4 since so many fans of PS3 praised the free Sony online but are fine with paying for PS4. I hate that 2/3 hardware platforms have taken this route and that gamers aren't revolting. They see $399 PS4, think it's cheaper than PS3 and they cheer. I would seriously consider getting a PS4 but I almost don't want to out of principle.

So now I buying a new HDD and another PS+ sub when I pick up my PS4?
Hmm, that's news to me.

People that buy the basic WiiU and think the 8gb are for something else than Wii virtual console games or savegames dont really act smart.... so who cares what they say :) Its not like the WiiU is a PS3 that has a shitty bluray drive and forces you to install games.... (btw is this still needed with the 12gb PS3? if yes ROFL!)
People should stop being lazy and just go and buy a 3TB harddrive for 75bucks. I mean Nintendo did something PRO CONSUMER by not adding a stupid harddrive that would make the system more expensive for everyone.
From the moment they buy the HDDs install them into the systems ship the systems around the globe let them be stored in warehouses send to retailers and untill they reach your home the HDD price was sinking and making the console more expensive than it needed to be.
Especially because 2.5" HDDs are totally overpriced compared to 3.5" HDDs.
Adding a harddrive would also create some other problems. More partnerships needed making deals with HDD manufacturers/suppliers. More expensive transports because HDDs do weight some gramms (the industry even removes manuals so EVERY cent counts) HDD transport is a bit more tricky because HDDs can get damaged easily. The console would certainly need a more expensive power supply (again even cents count) etc....
