does anyone know the exact specs on the the ps4 hardrive? im feeling both curious and lazy.

SATAII 2.5" 5400RPM... same for Xbone.

Thanx,  i wasnt thinking about it to much before, but Ill probably be changing that pretty quick with these sizes.

edit:  FYI,  Famous mort just tweeted a tease about big xbox news,  and that hes writing it up

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

These install sizes are insane. You won't be fitting much on those anemic hard drives if all games require similar sizes.
On the flip side at-least the Playstation 4's is easy to upgrade, Microsoft and Sony though, should have just spent the extra $5-$10 on a 1 Terabyte drive and be done with.

Yeah, waiting for that 2TB model circa late 2014... games are only gonna grow bigger.

no need to wait. just put a 2TB HDD in your PS4 and you are good to go

I would, but I can't afford one until late next year anyway (poor student) I just had to say something aside from "hurr, gonna get bigger".

at least it has better graphics than Cod and less storage required.

I'm curious which game will go over 100gb.

Holy Molly! That is one big fucking install, 37 GB is insane.

This isn't the best method, but for ME I hope it will work. Both One and PS4 are going to be having these massive installs, which will clog up the HDD. I usually only play one game at a time, so once I'm done with one, I'll just delete it. I don't feel like buying more storage too. With this method, I'm hoping 500 GB will be enough for both respectively.

Wait, so this is a mandatory install for retail? I thought PS4 didn't have that? Pardon my ignorance.

All PS4/XB1 games will have big installs or atleast a big temp install of 5-10GB. That's because disc drive speeds only increased 3x, while ram sizes increased 16x (average vram probably ~10-14x). As the PS3 already had trouble loading everything from the disc without sacrificing quality it's a given that for these consoles most data must be loaded from hdd into ram.

For games that do a full install I imagine that it begins with a "small" 5-10GB chunk and installs the rest while you are playing or while the disc is in the drive and the console is idling or maybe even while you play something else.

I don't know anything when it comes to this kind of talk, but that makes sense. Despite one aspect increasing, another aspect increases even more, and the issue of massive files arise.
