Well I'm just guessing, but I think most people that own a wii have spent a good amount of time playing wii sports, and possibly they would have bought another game if wii sports wouldn't have been included. this is why I would definitely include it to calculate the software attach ratio.

and please don't try to make up arguments by comparing something like a controller with a game. I think you need the controller to play the game, but you don't need wii sports to play another game. It would be different if somebody packed a second controller with its console.

My point is that Nintendo makes no money on the game and people may or may not be playing it. Therefore, it doesn't make any sense to include it in the software totals, which are usually used to indicate whether a company is profiting from a console after the initial purchase.

of course nintendo makes money with wii sports, its price is included in the price of the console. This is why the wii is cheaper in japan.

$250 of which $1(maybe less) is paid for the game

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

And it's more expensive in Europe. I don't think Nintendo priced the Wii dependant on whether Wii Sports was bundled or not. I think they had a baseline price of which market would support which price and went with that. I think Wii Sports was just an add-in to make the system more alluring to the EU and NA.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

Some people bought a Wii for Wii Sports, and some didn't. It doesn't really matter if we're talking about third parties ability to sell Wii software. Its not like Wii's software attach rate is unusually low for this point in its cycle, its just that 360s has been unusually strong. Wii obviously has some catching up to do. No one thought it would catch 360, especially in NA, within the first 6 months. It just has to be competitive now, and have caught 360 by the time PS2 stops being the primary money-maker for third parties. That gives Wii a good window yet. Its not sitting as pretty as it is in Japan, but considering how 360 is selling, its in good shape.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

well I don't know the exact numbers, but I think the difference between the japanese and the american price is far bigger than the one between american and european price.

and I want to agree with Erik, I think he is right.

where? I see where you say 360 sold 4.76 million in the similar timeframe, while Wii has 5.668 million. I will say that 360 selling that much software is good because they had smaller user base and more expensive games than wii does now, but they had arguably bigger releases in that time.

LOL, take out the Wii pack-in game and redo the numbers...  The Xbox 360 has the highest attachment rate period.

LOL read his post again

Xbox sells a lot of games because they are cheaper than the other systems, go to any store and xbox has all their platinum hits down for $20, go to blockbuster too, the amount of games you can get cheap is insane. The only reason crackdown sold was due to the sign up for halo 3 beta. GH2 would of sold like that for any system. The cheaper things are the more you will sell, just the other day i bought 3 new ps2 games for $20, less then $7 a game, this is why the PS2 was so successful, you can buy the system and get 5+ games for $100 total. Plus the xbox comes packaged with 2 games. Plus stores are starting to pack games with the ps3 aswell. I live in Canada, so i'm not sure if its like this everywhere. The wii will only sell due to its price, its games are crap for the most part and are the same price as the ps3 and 360 games brand new.

Umm "PS3owner" the Xbox 360 titles in that chart are more expensive than Wii titles. Of course you could say that the only reason Crackdown sold was because of Halo 3 beta, but as an Xbox 360 fan I could counter that Wii Play sold because it was bundled with the wii remote.

Hey, you cant beat a 10$ game. However due to that reason, I dont really think it should be counted.
